Sony to block second hand games on PS4
from the link

It’s rumored that this technology is already in development at Sony and will be used in the upcoming Playstation 4.
I really wish everyone would calm the frick down about this and let it play out. Sony isn't stupid and this would be a huge killer for them.

There are so many gamers on consoles because it created a niche that PCs were for some reason unable to capture before consoles came around.
It was price in the early years. Word processing took more power than the early games. In contrast, the current generation of consoles mostly sold at a loss to stay cheaper than pcs.

I wouldn't hold your breath. I commented how insane the article and these thoughts are, but my post was ignored.
I think it's quite hilarious how oblivious PC gamers here are to how valuable consoles are to them. So many games would not exist if not for console userbases that give publishers not named Valve far more $$.

Games? Games? The entire gaming industry wouldn't exist if it weren't for PC gaming. So don't even try to bring shite like that up.

How is that relevant today? Atari used to be a big player in the industry too.
Console gaming helps PC gaming so much as PS3/360/PC are allowed to developer because of the vast revenue brought in. So many games would not have been made.

How is it not? If you want a group of gamers that should be thankful for something then it doesn't get any easier than that. The notion that consoles help PC gaming, or that PC gamers should be grateful for console gaming, is laughable.

If there weren't any consoles you might have a drop in the total number of games put out, but quality would rise a ton.

Which doesn't even take into account games like CoD which basically bankroll Activision to being able to do whatever the hell it wants to on other fronts, because they are ALWAYS in the black financially, because of the CoD franchise.

Not even close to the truth. Without the bankroll consoles provide, you'd less big budget games (GTA wouldn't exist in its current state, it took consoles to launch the series into what it is now), but likely more smaller, creative titles. Whether that would be a good or bad thing is up to your subjective view.
I don't even see how you argue quality rising unlness you're speaking about only having to develop for one platform? There are plenty of counterpoints to this as there plenty of PC exclusive games that fall short of multiplatform titles. It rarely holds any bearing on the quality of the game. Sure, bad ports exist, but they exist for all platforms.
With the gaming market trending more and more into a blockbuster market, consoles have been relied upon by big publishers to push the company profitable. I don't particularly love CoD anymore, but I appreciate what it does as it finances far more than just a new Call of Duty. I'd figure the master race would be wise enough to understand this.

Many of these large franchises (Elder Scrolls, Mass Effect, etc.) rely on consoles to move more copies. Modern Warefare 3 sold something like 3-4 million on PC, where as the console version pushed over 25 million combined. Don't really wish to single out this series though, it's just very easy to do so since there is some much open data on it.

That's a bad thing for the quality of games, and that trend is already peaking.

I'm sure you are super excited about Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse, but what good game has Activision financed with CoD money? Big, publically-traded publishers are not putting their profits back into new games. This is why the blockbuster model is a miserable failure for gamers.
And please recall that World of Warcraft had to save Activision just 5 years ago.

Not even close to the truth. Activision was never in major peril. They choose to make the move after CoD had already become a great success. They were not doing fantastically because Tony Hawk reached saturation and they destroyed that series. Then they murdered the GH brand by releasing too many titles too quickly.
I can't think of time where Activision was ever in a spot like THQ who recently went bankrupt.
I agree the blockbuster model is bad for gaming, but not because of low quality but how it has driven up costs and put many good and talented studios out of business.

There's no way to prove direct causation with how their money is spent, but we do know they make a lot more than they could have ever spent on the development and marketing of each entry. Whether other Activision games are to you liking isn't really relevant, it still has brought more games to all. It's my personal speculation, but I don't think Bungie would making a big game with Activision if not for the incredible amount of cash that CoD has brought in.
Here's a list to all they've developed. LINK

and if not for consoles I don't think Square Enix would be around either.. Square was going downhill fast, Enix came in as the saviors, but Enix had only survived off of the extreme success on the Playstation..
and then FFX and FXII REALLY benefited from the ps2.. and even though the game has gotten awful reviews, the FF13 series is still selling insane numbers..
That being said, while their Final Fantasy franchises aren't the greatest - Square Enix has some of the best story driven games on the market.

Consoles are also the reason companies like activision and EA are churning out massive piles of shite that they call games on the reg.
There are pros and cons to console gaming becoming popular. I preferred gaming in the snes era when a game had to be good to sell, so everything was good. Hell, on the snes you could go buy a random looney toon game and it would be good.

Every cross culture exchange I've ever had on Xbox has been awesome. My favorite was when a bunch of Russians called me a cheeseburger eating socialist.
