when you think about it, this makes no sense for the console manufacturers to do this when publishers already are.

except the publishers are now coming to the Sonys and Microsofts, and telling them that even though they put DRM on the online portion of these games, people are still buying used games and playing the single player part of the games, and it is "UNACCEPTABLE!!!" .. this is going to just end up biting them in the arse, stupid move on their part.
ETA: As an off topic discussion, because this stupid thread is already German as hell to begin with, with the other thread even being on the first page to begin with..
Did you see that I started Samurai Champloo? Actually watching it with my wife!

Console sales both in systems, which you can understand with it being at the very end of the life cycle, and games are trending down.
I really sense more and more people moving to PC. A mov lik this would be the nail in the coffin.

I don't know why this made me laugh. I pictured:
"Hey guys....since this thread doesn't need to be here anyway, I'm turning it in to my own personal IM thread and IDGAF"

Based off the youtubes, there are just so many games on PC that look amazing. Not just graphically, but just fun as hell to play with friends. Honestly, the only thing tying me to xbox is friends. Well, that and I'm OT poor with a fixed single income family
Another concern is going to keyboard and mouse. Stout, how much of a pain is it to switch from controller honestly? How long did it take you to get familiar? I would think most games would start giving a controller option, but I could see where some games have so many options a controller would just be a pain.

and the people pulling the strings (the game developers) are going to be in for an extremely rude awakening when NOBODY buys their games because of this shite, and will ask Sony (and possible Microsoft) to take it off.
The game devs make money only 1 time. When someone buys a used copy, that doesn't magically make another copy. The devs know this. I think the devs will lower game prices as a game gets older but the $60 new game price point is here to stay.
I think the better argument would be exposure. I played a used copy of Bioshock 1 to I bought Bioshock 2 new when it was released.
If Sony implements this strategy then MS will have to follow suit because devs will favor the PS4 due to it's profit potential. MS can't afford to be left out on big multi-plat titles.

I guess that's the conflict.
Devs will favor PS4 b/c of profit generation.
But will consumers favor Xbox b/c they can still play used games on it?
If PS4 only has 1/4 of the consoles sold for example, that's a huge market the devs won't reach anyway. Interesting to see how it will play out.

Very true. DayZ does not even come close to having the best graphics but it is just fun. Same with Minecraft, Garry's Mod, and a ton of other games.
The open platform of development and distribution for indie gamers and mod creators make it the perfect storm of cheap and fun content. I have more fun on games that aren't Triple-A titles than anything. They are also games you can't get on console and if you could they would be severely limited by the consoles hardware.

More games have console options than you think and it's not as hard as you would think. I should play with KBM more just to get used to it but I am lazy and just want to play games so I use my controller when a game allows for it.
I did have to get a backlit keyboard because I play in the dark and I would sometimes catch myself holding the keyboard towards my monitor looking for keys.

So realistically, now much am I looking at for a decent gaming pc? I don't need the best of the best, just something serviceable that doesn't put me at a disadvantage to 95% of gamers.

Bruce just built his for $500 with everything but a monitor. He is using his TV for now I think.
He runs everything we have been playing at 50-70 FPS or so.
His benchmarks in that thread looked really good compared to the other builds in there that people have tons of money in.

if sony ends up doing this, M$ will not and corner the market for good

Well damn. That just made my decision. I already have a monitor on the xbox.
If the next gen consoles are going to run 300+ for a barebones one, might as well get pc. Like you said, tons of games and they are usually cheaper.

I saw it right after I asked for the link.
I've done plenty on the networking side. I'm a babe in the woods in terms of hardware and builds. I need to fix that.

As far as friends on PC go enough people here have made the switch that I don't think it will be hard to find people to play with.
I have a large group I play with and I am always looking for others because they don't always like all of the games I do.
If I see a game for $5 that even looks like it might be fun then I will try it out.
I bought a cool arse Western 3rd person shooter the other day for $2.49
Also, look at these cool arse mods

If the 720 does this than I'm going PC/Wii U next gen. This will also make older games hard to find later in the systems life.

Oh my, make it stop. Someone finds a patent among the thousands of patents filed by Sony. People write articles about it.
Then someone takes the same bit of information and makes a claim about a console that hasn't even been formally announced.
Gaming journalism sucks.
