i remember helping convince "that guy", 6 months or so ago, to drop his macbook and buy a gaming PC cause he'd probably enjoy it more
seems like everyone who has gotten a PC on here has been more than happy
I still enjoy my console. I enjoy having both. Unlimited options in 2013 is my kinda style

Can you build a computer, that will run Skyrim and other games, with the mods, especially the textures mods, for under $1100?
Posted on 1/3/13 at 10:22 pm to SeeeeK
Oh very easily. You can build a quality computer with that budget.
I5 3570k
7970/670/7950
Ud3h/extreme4 mobo
8Gb Ram
1Tb hdd
120Gb ssd
550 or higher wattage power supply
Nice full tower case
That will probably put you right around 1k-1100

That was back over the summer, and its been the best switch ever. I couldn't remember who helped me but thanks!
I've done about 3 different builds since then

yeah, once you start, it becomes addicting, for sure.
great thing about PCs... shite i learned in high school 12 years ago is still relevant today.

I agree but my recent experience with the new mobo has me gun shy. My first build went flawless but that scared me. I don't need to upgrade but i want to.

have you gotten the mobo back from RMA yet?

I RMA'd for a refund...lol

upgraded the mobo to a
ASUS M5A78L-M LX PLUS AMD 760G Motherboard - Micro ATX, AMD 760G Chipset,
damn, you're too late. I got this one for $69 2 weeks ago. It's pretty baller for a budget mobo.
ETA: LINK The open box for that mobo you're looking at is only $40. You'd probably need to pick up Sata cables though since they don't come with anything beside just the motherboard (so i've read anyway)
Here's a much better board for you for only 8 dollars more.

Pretty big price difference. Which should I get?
I'll pay extra money for an Nvidia card that performs worse.
I just simply haven't liked my radeon/ATI/AMD video cards in the past.

Been thinking about building a gaming pc, so I can get good deals on games instead of overpaying on console. Only problem is, I have no idea what I'm doing. All this thread did was confirm that. I feel like my head is about to blow up
Newegg has a 3 part series on how to build a PC.
Here's what I recommend:
You find the processor you want
You find out what "socket" it uses
Get a motherboard that has that socket type on it
Find out what memory type the motherboard uses, and get that memory
From there on out, it's pretty damn easy. Sata hard drives, PCI-E video cards.
Building a computer is much easier than it used to be. If you don't understand anything, start with these videos: LINK

Terrible way of deciding. The new 12.xx drivers are outstanding (DoUrden got a great boost from upgrading his drivers to the new 12.xx beta)

Not really. They're a company I don't trust. I've had historically way more issues with their drivers than I've had with Nvidia.

AMD drivers now are better than NVIDIAs. I'm leaving it at that.
My personal experience while playing with a card from each company the past week

I have a 7950 and have had lot's or problems with certain games. Far Cry 3 and AC3 especially and reading the forums it was strictly problems with AMD cards. One day I popped in my old Nvidia 560 just to see and no more problems with those game.
I am getting either a 670 or 680 very soon and getting rid of AMD.
Also, this AMD card has added at least 45 minutes more time on my video rendering and it has 3GB vs my 1GB 560. You figure it would render faster but it doesn't.
Just not happy at all with AMD.

Do y'all think it would be hard for a person who has never built a pc to build one? I'm no computer expert, but I'm not a complete dumbass either. I guess I'm average to slightly above average in computer knowledge for a 28 year old.

It's easy once you figure out what components you want to use. Especially if you watch that guide Newegg has on Youtube.

AMD
I originally built my system on a budget because I wasn't sure how much I would be into PC gaming. I have the 6 core 6200. I like it but I will probably get an I5 soon. I have been buying parts and upgrading for a while now.
I upgraded my case, added another 8GBs of ram, upgraded my PSU to a modular unit, got better monitors, a gaming keyboard, added an SSD, and another 1.5 TB HDD.
As soon as I switch back to an Nvidia card I am looking at a new MOBO and Chip combo. Then I think I will be happy and have a system that will last a few years.
Not that my current system wouldn't last a few year it's just now that I am addicted I can't get enough as far as upgrading and tweeking goes.
