I thought it was a very good movie but I don't get people saying its the best film of the year.

Gordon-Levitt is awesome, but he's definitely done some shitty movies.
I thought Looper was great, even if the ending was predictable.

Best? No
But it was unexpected, unique, clever and quite entertaining.
I just wish that chick would squeeze the frog for me to come over

Without a doubt I really did enjoy the hell out of it and while I haven't seen django or Lincoln yet if they're not better I will be highly disappointed.

Call me dumb but I didn't expect it to end the way it did

It'll be in my Top 10.

I just wish that they would've explained in better detail why getting rid of the rainmaker was so important? What exactly was happening in the future?

SPOILERS
It was essentially the director's cut of The Butterfly Effect. Shitty consequences for everyone, so the person takes his own life when he's younger in order to spare everyone else the pain of what happens when he's older. I suppose since I'd seen something so similar before, I was able to recognize it again.

I thought it was the best of the year, but the only new movies I saw were Looper, Skyfall, The Avengers and Dark Knight Rises

While the ending didn't shock I didn't exactly predict it either

The Rainmaker controlled the government and the mob. And for Old Joe, he killed the one person he loved.

well according to GrandeBeli, JGL's performance in Looper was right up there with Daniel Day-Lewis in My Left Foot.

personally, the lack of knowledge about what was happening in the future made the "young rainmaker" more sinister.

Yea I get that (although I apparently missed where they said he controlled the govt) but no he did not kill old Joe's wife, the thugs who came to get old Joe killed his wife. Thugs that Joe knew would one day come. Joe was just as guilty as the rainmaker. His actions and decisions led to her death just as much as the rainmakers.

Well he controlled the mob who killed his wife, so I suppose he holds him responsible.
They definitely fricked up the time travel aspects of the movie, but the rest of the story and acting is so good that I didn't really care.

Emily Blunt was an interesting choice for a heartland farmer single mom type... Not complaining.
