You do realize the game consisted of more than one drive. Correct? The offense was spotted 7-10 points. They sucked and have sucked for years. Jesus.

This thread was about the last possession. I've had criticism concerning other aspects of the game as well as the season but not on this thread.

It's posts like these that make me post FACTS. 4/5 of LSU's top offenses ,EVER,are Miles coached teams.

Why do you folks think everything has to be run between the tackles? No wonder Miles has so many fans here.

Miles needs to do something with that offense, he isn't leaving himself many options when they may be needed.

I agree. I'd like to see a coordinator change. Not sure we will though. There have been many times our O was very predictable this year.

WTF do you think we were facing on that last series? A motherfricking wall, that's what!

Clemson sold out against the run, and only an idiot would have run it there.

The field is 160 feet wide.

It was idiotic to run it against Bama on that last series. There was no doubt Bama's eight guys were going to beat our seven blockers and put a hat on the ball carrier.

A lack of imagination limits your options. That's what we have at LSU.

Clemson knew what we were running. Hell, I think my wife knew.

One of two series a game LSU does something different, usually in the third quarter ..then it's gone.

The coaches made one of those rare, truly brilliant calls; it worked like a charm; and you think that's stupid.

I must not know what the term "worked like a charm" means....

According to my understanding, it didn't work like a charm. If it had, LSU would have a W instead of an L.

To work like a charm, our receiver would have had to catch the ball and run past the marker for a 1st down. It worked like a welfare queen with seven kids getting government cheese.

Clemson stopped us twice on 3rd and short yardage with runs. It's not like they did it six times. And Mett had about twenty sacks on 3rd down.

The choice was obvious and easy - make them stop Jeremy Hill who they haven't consistently stopped all game long.

We went with Mett who struggled with a pick and many sacks (which obviously weren't all his fault).

It was stupid when looking at what worked vs. what didn't work and what could really backfire.

Do people forget that when we ran on Bama we needed to get 8 yards on 3rd down, versus 2 yards on second down?

It wasn't the eight yards on third down call that I disagreed with; it was the second and (I believe) six. Calling plays is about catching the other team off guard. I was at the Bama game. Bama had their strong safety at linebacker depth. We had a receiver on the right side one on one with a chump. It was almost automatic. If you don't see that, there's no helping you. Similarly, on third and two, with a full game history of getting stuffed by Clemson's run-loaded short yardage defense, a pass was the right call. The coaches picked that moment to make an artistic, thing-of-beauty call that worked as in their wildest dreams...then the QB inexplicably failed. It happens. But don't blame the coaches for the call.

The passing game wasn't working, QB and WR's were out of sync and you needed to burn time or force timeouts.

It was a risky and bad call on second down.

Clemson had our number in short yardage plays all night. They thought we'd do it again. We didn't. We caught them off guard. We had the guy wide open. We didn't make the pass. It was a good call. It's not that hard to see. Unless you have another agenda here to prove that's bigger than this one play call. But none of you would stoop to that.

You should check the box score. We only had one run for a loss all game, and that was Ford. Hill had only two runs that failed to gain yardage, out of 12 runs. Even without the long touchdown Hill was averaging 6 YPC. Ware was averaging 3 YPC, and had gains of 1 yard, 5 yards, and 3 yards on his 3 runs. He never lost yardage and was never stopped for no gain. Hilliard, who inexplicably only had two touches, had gains of 5 and 3 yards.

The idea that the run was so ineffective that they couldn't gain 2 yards on 2 downs is completely farcical. They were getting small chunks of yards on nearly every run.

Hill ran for more yards than Mettenberger threw for. Mettenberger was 14 of 23 with *6* sacks. Why in the world would those stats convince you that you needed to pass the ball to pick up 2 yards?!

They say there is a fine line b/w stupid and stubborn. LSU has run the gauntlet of questionable play calling on both offense and defense in recent games.

Ala. we run late when we were passing extremely well. Last night we tried passing when we were running well. Then there is the defense that continues to give up touchdowns immediately after we get 2 score leads. That's what bothered me the most last night and helped set LSU up for failure. The trend to not be able to put away your opponent has been consistent since the Ala. loss. I don't think we ever recovered.

and they have to fly down the field with no timeouts and a sack just about ends the game.

That was the situation against Bama. I hate to say it, man, but pussies do that. Guys with nuts go for the jugular, and sometimes fail.

Really? We made Bama use their timeouts and then they took about 40 seconds to score a TD. The time was meaningless.

Right. We should've passed against Bama because he torched them like no QB I've seen. Another not-so-great decision, but I can understand his thinking in that one.

if they outnumber for the run.. wouldn't it make sense to spread the field 4 wide and do a zone run play?

And some of the worse offenses are miles coached teams but that's also taking into account the cannon years where they ran practically every play so obviously some of those offenses are statistically bad.

The years I think you're referring to is miles first three years. What has changed? Jimbo leaves?

Since '07 we have not had a offense like that.
If you want to count last year where we had one of the best turnover margins in CFb, I'll give you that.

But you're still living in '07.

We are 5 years removed from that. What changed? '08. '09, '10, '12 - we are ranked in the 50s. Or below in offense and I'm being generous. Compare the overall defensive rankings.

In '10 our passing game is ranked in the 100s.

So what's your excuse this year? What's wrong with the offense? Just say the players.

The width has nothing to do with it. It's about gaps. The space between the guy on the end and the sideline is just another gap. They loaded up for the run, which means they had guys in every gap, including the one at the end. You can't run against that unless you have a huge advantage in athletes. On the other hand, it means they're short handed in the passing game and their guys would have to do superhuman things to prevent the kind of play we ran. They were unable to stop it, but were saved by our lack of execution.
