The one blemish on this ENTIRE career is he couldn't hang in the NFL. That has to eat on him.
This would be the only reason i see why he might leave. He is a top 5 coach in college but his time in the NFL was bad. He may want to try to fix that perception of his coaching career.
Plus with carroll's success this year it can be done. Cleveland is not that bad of a team. They need some wr and te help and the offense should be pretty good.

I continually see Carroll's success compared to Saban, why is Jim Harbaugh's success over the past two years never brought up?

Saban can't carry harbaughs jock!

Probably because this is Harbaugh's first stint as an NFL HC. Pete Carroll's career in the NFL prior to going to USC is similar to Saban's at Miami, it was short, not wildly successful, but not as bad as people seem to think.

For one, he would be retiring to his lake house in Georgia. But personally, I love Tuscaloosa.

If this report is true, it looks like the Browns are out of the Saban sweepstakes.

It seems like Cleveland wants an offensive-minded coach to turn that offense around. I don't blame them. Their defense is fine. If the Browns want to win, they have to improve their offense.

People who know new Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam III and CEO Joe Banner insist they are looking to provide their franchise a fresh start and a new culture, which is one reason they will fire coach Pat Shurmur and general manager Tom Heckert, according to sources.
Wanting a fresh approach means not hiring a coach looking for a second chance such as New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, who had been linked to Cleveland as a potential head coaching candidate but is not expected to be a candidate.
Cleveland is expected to make a major run at a college coach such as Oregon's Chip Kelly or Penn State's Bill O'Brien or search for a bright young offensive NFL mind.

One in college is Texas. Alabama cannot compete with Texas if they throw the checkbook at him
Its really funny that people actually think this. There is no amount of money that Texas could or would offer that Alabama can't match. Their AD may make the most money, but they are not going to give all the revenue to the FB coach, so just stop.
The NFL OTOH can offer more than Bama can offer, specifically an ownership stake. I've said for a long time that if he leaves it would be back to the NFL. I do agree it's not an accident that his name has been coming up. Either he has interest in going back or he is trying to get more money from Bama. It would not surprise me if he goes or stays a case can be made for both.

Wishful thinking on some people's part. He's there to stay.

Does nobody realize that the main thing keeping Saban from going to the NFL is the fact that his aggressive attitude and disciplinarian ism won't work with grown arse men who make more money than the 5'5" hobbit that is yelling at them. Saban will never go back to the League, he would have to change his entire coaching style to be successful in the NFL

Yes, its been a real problem for Tom Coughlin, Bill Parcells and several others over the years

Not this year. But next it's a very strong possibility.

One thing is certain,The more oppenings the better chance of Saban leaving.

Yep. The situation is exactly the same. Saban is a young guy who doesn't have any experiences. He also is kind of a dolt who doesn't learn from stuff and makes the same mistake over and over.
Dude it's all about the money. Some team will cut him double what Bama is paying and bam he's gone. It's not about learning from mistakes. If he goes and signs a 5 year deal and gets 10 mil a year how is that a mistake? If they fire him he gets paid. Retire and enjoy or move into a GM job in the league. He has to be tired of the Bama fan base nut cases. He hates southerners in general.
Posted on 12/31/12 at 10:52 am to pochejp
Yeah, he hates Southerners so badly that he has spent 11 of the last 13 years in the Deep South and plans on retiring there (northeast corner of Georgia). He obviously doesn't enjoy the region or its people.
Posted on 12/31/12 at 12:15 pm to Govt Tide
I think he will give serious consideration to another NFL job then after much reflection, he will make the wise decision and stay with Bama where he is considered godlike.
