So do you support the theory of secession because of this inequity?

No, because us leaving unilaterally does not change anything overall.

quote:

Would you rather a couple decent teams in each conference with shite teams residually making up the rest?

Something like this, but with less permanence, perhaps seeded groups, there are a lot of different options

quote:

Sure, being in a conference with so many great teams can prove to be a disadvantage because we have to play several highly ranked opponents each year, but IMO, it's more of a positive than a negative.

Under the current system, and considering other conferences, I agree

quote:

Look how many top recruits want to play for SEC schools - we are always in the hunt for the top HS prospects in the country, because we are in the SEC. Look at what it's done for A&M..after moving to the SEC and achieving success, they now have a leg up on recruiting the state of Texas..which given a few more years of success, may prove to be deadly.

I agree, but it could have gone the other way for A&M, had they stunk it up like Mizzou and been equally disastrous. But I think the factors for A&M were different. Auburn leaving the SEC would be more analogous.

quote:

Additionally, because we are a member of the conference that has come to be known as "elite" in comparison to the rest of the country, we are given the opportunity to play in epic battles year in and year out.

This is true, but with a playoff system, which in my mind will likely expand, those epic battles will occur during the regular season to the detriment of the post season.

quote:

Sure, recently, we've been given a shite hand - the unprecedented rematch handed to Alabama last season, the alleged actions by Silve to purposely keep us out of the Cotton Bowl (which I am very skeptic of), and even the "scheduling imbalance" claimed by so many. But, if you think that this team is better off NOT being a part of the SEC so we can have an easier route to the MNC, that is where we disagree, my friend.

I agree with all of this, but when the system becomes overly dominant with one program or one conference, then the whole system suffers as a result, when the power also becomes concentrated like it is, we are likely at best to see a lack of transparency which alienates the fan/consumer or worse corruption. Ultimately the NCAA or the US judicial system is the only force that would fix the problem

On the idea of a playoff, I completely agree with you.

I understand what you are saying, now; I'm glad you cleared that up.

Playoff system with 16 teams would solve a lot of this. LSU should come out now and support this and say SEC is pussies if they are afraid of it, we are not and will play anyone anywhere. and add a frick you SLive and Saban. We should work to undermine them publicly at each and every opportunity, until they quit fricking us. We should put a few 100 k into the "Undermining Slive Saban and The SEC in football" fund. This should be job one. When they make a point that is designed to favor Bama or hurt us attack like a gator on a wounded Nutria.

LSU is an Elite program in the best conference and best division of CFB.

What am I missing?

I attended the LSU vs, Bama game this year. There were 200k fans on campus for that event. It does not get any better or bigger than that folks.

Why would we want to leave? Pride? Jealous of Bama and Nick? That just stupid! GG needs to retire

the best option for LSU would be to go independent with the likes of Notre Dame. This would allow LSU to make their own schedule and keep all of the money....no splitting of funds and no complaining about the refs!!

Several posters believe that the Cotton Bowl's selection of A&M was not due to proximity and overall excitement of their playin style, but rather because the Cotton Bowl committee was pressured by Silve into picking A&M over us. This theory will take some hard evidence for me to believe.

As much as I believe there is inequity in Birmingham that is the root of our sour attitudes I did not believe that secession was a viable option to address it. Maybe Rabalais should have written an article on the time for Slive to pack his bags and why LSU should push for it...

I, however, think you are missing the point...It's not penis envy but rather a TRUE ADVANTAGE that Alabama has been getting in scheduling since the days of the Bear.

Brewhan, the statement above is the main issue. If your are so knowledgeable and have balanced thinking, please pontificate on the real issue stated above.

Perhaps the SEC office should be moved to Baton Rouge and the staff be loaded with LSU alumni. Especially when it comes to the scheduling committee and SEC officals. I vote for a position in the review of close plays at LSU games. I'm not a grad of LSU...I would be fair like the officiating in Alabama.

That's what someone mentioned earlier.. definitely cleared things up, but still pretty deceitful on part of the Advocate, IMO.

You gotta admit that LSU is the black sheep in the SEC Family.
