They were both pretty bad. Not just in terms of how graphic and violent they were, but in how long. I saw the Americanized version first in the theater, and you could literally hear a pin drop the entire time.
I'd say the Swedish version was a bit worse, but mainly because of how stark the movie was to begin with.

I watched the Swedish version of Girl with the Dragon Tattoo with my mom and brother....when the rape scene occurred I was a little uncomfortable to say the least

I can tell the others have not seen Irreversible, because that one is definitely the most brutal... Hands down
