Most Wizard families and such probably have a large fortune accumulated from the less regulated periods of their society, where they took advantage of muggles.
"Nowadays" they aren't really allowed to mess with muggles I don't think.

That's not true they worked as Aurors, at least for a time. I'm guessing they left the ministry when it became apparent that Voldemort had infiltrated most aspects of the Ministry, similar to what he was trying to do later on in the 6th and 7th books. But they were Aurors for awhile

Also that money in their vault was all the money they had in the world I'm assuming. And since they were two people and just had a son, I'm assuming they were doing there best to save money. Nobody had touched the account for over a decade, if it accrued any interest at all I'm not sure. But for a teenager to all of a sudden get an entire households money would seem like a fortune, especially for a guy used to living under a stairwell

I'm glad they made the actree that played Ginny a little more attractive for the 6th and 7th movies. But she should have been so much hotter. In the books it was pretty much universal that she was a fox

Voldemort got his power by attracting dark wizards from old, powerful families. Bellatrix/Malfoys were both extremely wealthy I believe

They were both wealthy, and from the same family too. Also money isn't as important in the wizard world. You don't need to pay for electricity, you don't have cars so no gas to pay for, no cable or Internet bill, no phone lines. A lot of little things that we need money for they don't

It was the same actress over the span of like 11 years and 8 movies. She was a little kid in the first movies.

Then why was such emphasis placed on Ron Weasly having tattered, hand-me-down robes and not being able to afford shite?

Because he was from an old pure blood family so his poverty was abnormal for people of his class

I know I just mean they definitely made more of an effort to make her look more attractive in the later movies. In the early movies they didn't even bother at all, even though she was young

Money is still important, I just mean there are some things that they don't really need money for a lot of things we do but they still need it. Also Ron getting made fun of for being poor is more of a class thing than anything else, Malfoy considers him lowly because his Wizarding family isn't known to be wealthy and high class
Also I found a better answer to the duplicating money issue. Do you remember Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration? There are 5 things that you can not transfigure out of thin air. The only one directly stated is Food
quote:
"Your mother can’t produce food out of thin air, no one can. Food is the first of the five Principal Exceptions to Gamp’s Law of Elemental Transfiguration"
The others are implied but they seem to be Money and Shelter, Clothing, Body Parts removed by dark magic, and outside Temperature
Here's an explanation I found
quote:
Money and Shelter: This is two items, but they are often inextricably linked: one can’t have a beautiful or large home without having money to pay for it. Although an interior of a room or area can be expanded, as the Weasleys did while camping at the Quidditch World Cup and while riding ministry-borrowed cars, and valuable objects can be multiplied, if the intention is to suffocate a thief inside a vault at Gringott’s, they can’t be created from scratch.
- Clothing: Even wizards of great skill—Remus Lupin and Molly Weasley included—cannot seem to conjure up new robes and are instead stuck with old, patched ones, ones that are too short, or ones that are hopelessly out of style. If clothing were not one of the exceptions, Lupin would have long ago conjured a new wardrobe, and Ron would have avoided his dress-robe embarrassment at the Yule Ball.
- Body Part Removed by Dark Magic: In the wizarding world, all sorts of body parts can be repaired and even conjured from scratch (like the regrowing of Harry’s bones after his quidditch accident in The Chamber of Secrets.) But these same body parts—and the entire body, in the case of the Killing Curse—cannot be replaced or repaired if Dark Magic was involved, no matter how skilled the healer.
- Temperature: The conjuring of heat or cold or the transfiguring of something warm into something cold (and vice versa). Although wizards can produce water (Aguamenti!) and can emit steam from their wands through the hot-air charm—steam that lightly melts objects like snow or dries objects like sopping-wet clothing—wizards cannot raise or lower the temperature of the air, stop rain or snow from falling, slow or speed the wind, or heat or cool large bodies of water.
ETA: you also can't bring people back from the dead, at least not completely, and you can't create real love. But I guess those are more spiritual or intangible things rather than physical things to Transfigure, bc you can reanimate a dead body, but you can't bring back that person

Seems pretty socialist as everyone goes to work for the ministry of magic except for a few small business owners who are no doubt taxed to the hilt.

Not true. They were never Aurors. According to Pottermore, at least, they went directly to working with Dumbledore to fight Voldemort straight out of school. James Potter came from a wealthy, pureblood wizarding family, so he had a large inheritance that he was able to leave for his son.

Huh, could be true, I'm not pretending to know more than Pottermore (which really dissappointed me btw). I guess they (at least James) was training to be one
