Apparently there are a bunch of openings where, if the players enroll in January, they count against the prior year's limit.
Also they will probably lose any two of the following: Moore, Matthews, and Joeckel (and maybe all three). So they can fill those slots too.
Also one commit (Kohl Stewart) appears to be headed to MLB.

There's some funny math they can do, but the SEC's 25 per class rule is about to be teethless.

I think they'd have to count 9 back according to the rules now. I believe that's how it works.

They had 19 initial counters last year, so they can count back as many as 6 if the 85-limit is not surpassed. That would allow for signing 31 altogether for this recruiting year. The remaining three, along with the number of any additional commits, would not sign LOI's when Signing Day arrives.

they get to count a bunch of early enrollees towards last years class
and I am sure they are expecting a few not to qualify
they will proabably end up signing around 34 but only 25 will sign as part of the 2013 class

I still don't think they can sign more than 31 then. Surely they won't know if they qualify or not by signing day.

That's because we only signed 19 last year with 3 of those as EEs so only 16 counted. That means we can sign 9 over and count towards last year.

Seems like the 25 scholarship limit is baffling a lot of people.
The 25 scholarship limit is per calendar year. Thus, if you have early signees and room in the 25 from previous years (and in the 85 max) you can count back to reach 25. End of story.
A&M signed 19 players in the 2012 class, three of which counted back to 2011. They can sign 34 in this "class" so long as 9 of those are mid-term guys and they currently have room in the 85.

Ole Miss with 37 in 2009
This is the reason for the rule. What Ole Miss did was sign 37 guys with 25 spots with the expectation that a lot of the 37 wouldn't qualify. If more than 25 qualified, there was a chance they'd be leaving some kids high and dry.
This is distinctly different from what A&M is doing. They have 34 spots and will sign 34 guys. If they sign a player that doesn't qualify, it counts as a spot as if the player signed.
