We've been criticized this year by some talking head fools for winning ugly and winning narrowly. Ironically, I think our close wins (Purdue, UM, BYU, Stanford, Pitt) will prove one of our biggest strengths against 'Bama. They had only two close games they won: LSU and GA. In fact, they didn't win them as much as the other team lost. In that regard they were like our Pitt game (and we only had one Pitt game; they had two).

Winning as we have in overtime and with goal line stands has built a confidence and a brotherhood on this ND team that few teams ever develop. I don't think 'Bama has developed this quality this year: winning has been relatively easy for them. This important intangible doesn't get built in the process of demolishing the likes of the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, Florida Atlantic Owls or Western Carolina Catamounts (who were beaten more like catamites 49-0 by the mighty 'Bama).

In short, I think we have more "character" than the Tide does. We will be the best defensive team they've played all year. We also have a much, much better offense now than we did during the first half of the year. Everett has developed and improved more than any of us could have imagined. I think he is a much better QB than their guy and he will prove one of the measures of our strength in this game.

I'm usually more cynical than optimistic, but not about this team and not about this game. We're going to be the 2012 CFB National Champions. It's '73 all over again!

It'll be close, but that's to our advantage.

GO IRISH! BEAT 'BAMA!

I like how your advantage analysis included position and group battles.

We struggled and won in close games against really good teams.

You struggled and won against teams like Purdue and Pitt.
Do you see the difference?

Believe what you want. It wont help your team not get demolished.

HIGHLY debatable.

Alabama came from behind to beat LSU in Death Valley and UGA in the SECCG.

Who did you beat in overtime and with a goal line stand?

yeah championship caliber teams don't barely beat mediocre teams

I wouldn't be surprised if this game turns out like Bama's opening game against Michigan where it was over after the first quarter.

eta: I actually expect this to happen. Bama rolls over ND

Are you trying to convince them or yourself that ND has a chance?

Did you really compare close wins against Purdue, UM, BYU, Stanford, Pitt to close wins against LSU and UGA??

Congrats on taking teams to overtime that Bama would have destroyed in the first quater!

While I agree that learning how to win close games is nice, the cold hard truth is that some pretty average to crappy teams have taken ND to the wire and, like it or not, this reveals weakness in ND's strength as a team. I have little doubt that Alabama would have destroyed most of the teams (like Pitt, Michigan, BYU, etc.) that ND scraped by. This is telling.

Get out of here with that the "other team lost" business. Also, you had a lot more close games than Pitt. Also you are comparing a close loss (in OT right?) to Pitt to close losses to LSU and Georgia? Seriously? You don't see any difference there?

Agree, that winning close give teams a certain chemistry.

The LSU, Texas A&M, and Georgia games have provided plenty of that chemistry for Alabama.

Throwaway line in your post.

LSU is comparable, but I agree ND is very good defensively.

I agree. ND's offense was horrible to begin with and is probably slightly above average now.

There is really nothing to support your claim that ND's QB is better than McCarron. McCarron has had the superior season by far. Just because Everett Golson doesn't suck like he did at the beginning of the year, doesn't mean he is some great QB now.

quote:

It'll be close, but that's to our advantage.

I think ND can stay in this game for sure, but Alabama wins by more than a TD.
