Army/Navy, BCS and other bowl selection questions

what would have been done had Navy needed to beat Army to go undefeated this year when the BCS selections were a week ago?
Navy has a schedule that would have probably gotten them into the top 16 of the BCS.
Are there different rules for independents? Would Navy have been locked into the Armed Forces Bowl no matter what?
and what would they have done had Navy simple needed this game to be bowl eligible?
would that mean a school like La Tech would have to be actively rooting against Navy to hold out hope for a bowl invite?

I also have wondered what people would say if the race beween BCS 2 and 3 was so close that the result of the Army / Navy game would actually affect the computer rankings of the number 2 and 3 teams enough to be the deciding factor. Imagine, for example, that Notre Dame was number 2 in the BCS and had played Navy earlier in the year. Number 3 was just thousandths of a point behind - so close that a change in one computer ranking would be the difference. A Navy loss would bump number 3 ahead of Number 2 Notre Dame, but it wouldn't matter because BCS is already done.
I always wondered why BCS final came before Army / Navy.

They would postpone the selection show a week. If the Army/Navy game affected the national championship or any BCS bowl they would just postpone it a week.

i'd hate the automatic tie-in to one bowl whether you go 6-6 or 11-1. major non-BCS bowls like the Capital One, Cotton, Gator, etc. need to have a mechanism to take a Boise State so they don't drop from a possible BCS bid to the Motor City Bowl
