300 blackout your thoughts?

Thinking of building another AR in 300 blackout or 6.8spc. I am leaning towards the .300 since it uses the same bolt and mags. Any of you have either or these cartridges? Will probably end up deer hunting with the rifle.

Sounds good... In theory.
Only problems you run into with 300BLK is access to bullets and lower and upper receiver parts. Sure there are some now at a premium price, but should become readily available in the near future seeing.
6.8 SPC you can get, but if you're going for deer I would load 300BLK.

Palmetto State Armory has this upper listed for $459 but does not include bolt carrier or charging handle.
At least the .300 black out uses the same bolt carrier assembly and mags as the .223/5.56 since that is the parent case.

Do it. It's a great round. Definitely get a suppressor too, it's amazing how quiet the round is suppressed. You will not be disappointed.

I'll go farther and say that if you don't plan on getting it suppressed, then don't do it, go 6.8

I love mine. The ammo is more common than 6.8 and a lot cheaper too, from what ive seen. I haven't gotten to shoot mine off a bench yet but so far its a dream to shoot. I keep putting off buying a can but I have shot a suppressed Bushmaster 300 BO and it was sweet. Carson and I talked extensively about the round on a few threads earlier this week/last week. Look them up for lots of information.

I'm in the process of ordering parts to build a 300 BLK SBR and SS. 9" barrel and an AAC can. Gonna frickin ROCK.

Umm why?
300 is compatible with 99% of current ARs currently on the market with a simple barrel swap, 6.8 is not. The 300 can shoot factory 220 grain bullets, the 6.8 cannot. The 300 has factory bulk ammo, the 6.8 does not. The 300 has all the momentum going for it right now, the 6.8 does not.
A few positives for the 300 right there. What does the 6.8 have for it? Long range? The .308 is much better in every aspect over the 6.8.

300 Blackout=300 Whisper=300/221. There are very minute dimensional differences in the 300 Blackout compared to the 300 Whisper, enabling the 300 BO to be a factory round w/ SAAMI specifications for chamber pressure and chamber specs. I've got a 12" 300/221 Contender barrel I've used for deer hunting. It's a fine deer hunting round. In my Contender, I get 2250 fps from the 125 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip.
I'm not into the AR platform, but it I was, the 300 BO would seem to make more sense than the 6.8.
One other point re: the 300 BO. If you intend to shoot the 220 gr, subsonic bullets, be sure you get a barrel w/ the appropriate twist for this.

Because to me, the most enticing thing about the .300 is the suppressed options, and all the momentum you speak of seems to come from those suppressed options.
I can understand your points, even though personally I would rather the range over the compatibility with other weapons.
I will ask if you know if the round is compatible with the IWI Tavor, which fires from PMAGs and is chambered in 5.56

If you can get a 300BLK barrel for it, I don't see why it wouldn't work

Sorry if that came off dickish. I can see your points though. I just believe that the 300 is a great round not suppressed. Suppress it and its even better.
I do not know for sure but I will say what Carson said, If you can find a barrel, I imagine so.
My reasoning is that AAC is currently working on a 300 barrel for the ACR. I believe that is the only part that they are having to swap to make the 300 work.

A guy I built a rifle for asked me to have a single lower with a .556 upper and a 300BLK upper for easy switching. I built the 300 the exact same, but with a Noveske 300BLK barrel. Functioned flawlessly. In theory, all you should need is a barrel. I haven't worked with a TAR before, but I'd imagine it's the same way.
Geauxt, I will email you shortly.

You put a Noveske barrel in an ACR? I thought that there were more differences in AR and ACR barrels. Not that I could say what they are.

I gotcha, makes sense now. Saved somebody with some money (not me) from blowing up their new ACR.
