How old were you when this occured? I remember thinking that the hill out behind mowmows house was a mountain as a kid. Perspective changes as you get older.

I went to Donuts with Dad at my kids school the other day and couldn't get my over grown arse on those little stools at the lunch table.

About 12. And I had killed hundreds if not thousands of snakes by that age. Hell I'd probably killed a hundred out of that single pond. This wasn't an illusion. We called it 8 feet because he was doubled up about four feet long on the log but could have been 7. All black/brown mud colored. The thing that was so striking about it was the body being so huge. It was like a triangle with fat arse snake falling off the sides towards the water.
I've never seen a cottonmouth anywhere near that big since then. shite I killed a four footer last year and was impressed as hell. Only snakes I've seen that long since then were chicken snakes.

Looks more like a dark phase Eastern Diamond Back.

He hates this one got killed, and has advice for anyone who encounters one in the future.
"They don't want nothing to do with you, so leave them alone. They got a right to live too," he explained.

i still don't see 87 lbs there, do you?
Posted on 12/7/12 at 9:23 am to jorconalx
I have my doubts, but I also have zero experience weighing snakes.

Snake is inches away from the camera while the tractor is many feet away. Optical illusion if ever I seen one.

That's what I was saying. That would be 1 pound per inch. Unless its 8" diameter, its not likely

they had to use a loader to hoist.....definitely 87 lbs.
As a professed snake hater, I must ask. Is it okay to kill them when they can eat a toddler?
Needless to say, no deer has entered that county in a while, 87 lb snakes will now be added to the list that includes bears.

Like propping up a 400# tuna on its nose while stabilizing with one hand?

Snakes are like mercury. Very dense and heavy.

I would not have touched it, other than to cut off its rattles...which I bet is what happened and it was found dead next to the road.
The Bloody stump tailded cottonmouth. A new species.
