According to a release by West Point, the uniform design, which is Army's classic black and gold, pays tribute to 1944, which included the first of Army's three consecutive national championships and the World War II victory at the Battle of the Bulge.
The uniforms include a historical map imprinted inside the numbers, on the helmet stripe, on the gloves, the sleeves and on the inside of the shoes. The helmet also features a small black spade on the side to honor the 101st Airborne Division, which fought in the Battle of the Bulge

I always enjoy watching the Army-Navy game. One of the big reasons is to see the bad arse unis that both teams sport!

Great, we have TWO recognized divisions now!
I'm just playing around anyways.
My grandfather was a 29'er during WWII.

My grandpa fought in this. Pretty cool to see it honored.

Then he is a bad man. There aren't many of these guys left. I close family friend that walked across Europe and fought in the Battle of the Bulge passed away just this year.
There is a great Showtime doc that has been airing this week called Game of Honor, in which they followed both teams for the entire season leading up to the game last year. I fought back tears towards the end when they are interviewing the parents. Really cool stuff.

He actually has passed away, sadly, about seven years ago. It doesn't seem like it's been that long.

Those Navy helmets are just fantastic.
I can't link it here from work but the pic that shows the map on the Army gloves/sleeves is pretty damn sharp too.
