Keeping iron sights, not as easy to change to optics without a flat top...

It has been posted many times before but I am going to just give name brands a basics.
1.Buy a complete upper.
BCM Bravo Company & Macine. Universally considered to be the best bang for your buck.
2.Buy a lower from a local dealer or buy one online and have it shipped to your local FFL.
3.Buy a LPK lower parts kit. I like Daniel Defense and Spikes Tactical.
Put it all together, its easy, dont sweat it.
Go shoot.

That AR you linked is shite.
Kinda what I was thinking too, but I wanted to let him down a little easier.

Some people hate on Bushmaster but I know people that have them and love them. And I have a DPMS which is made by the same company - Remington. It's a great upper.
I agree the Bravo ones are better and stuff, but no offense to Carson, if you just want something to shoot occasionally and have fun with, a Bushmaster is perfectly fine.
You may want to get a flattop though. It makes it much easier to mount optics.

I wasn't saying Bushmaster is shitty, I just hate seeing people buy an AR without a flat top or rails because they will always want to add accessories and will have to endure huge pains in the arse if they want to with a setup like that of the linked AR

Good point. I guess I didn't realize what you were referring to directly.
I definitely agree with you. A flattop receiver is much easier for just about everything.
Don't you love it when you see someone's AR ready for every single situation known to man with shite hanging all off of it? If you're like me, I'm sure you prefer it to be minimal and simple. That's how I roll.

I know. I have an optic and a vertical foregrip. I may put a flashlight

The lower is what would need to be shipped to a FFL?
Uppers and other parts would not?
Is that correct. Reading all these threads has got me wanting one. What is a good AR10 recomendation.

You looking to hunt with it?

Only the lower receiver needs to be shipped to a FFL. Or you can usually find them local for cheap too. This is the only part that has a serial number on it and thus makes it the "gun". Any and all other parts of the gun can be shipped to your door.
I almost got an AR10 but decided against it because they are so heavy. I would recommend Armalite, DPMS, and LaRue for your .308 needs. Very broad price ranges between those three but good starting points to look at.
BTW, the DPMS Recon .308 was my favorite out of all AR style rifles and would have gotten one until I found out that there was a 6-8 month wait on them from the factory. I settled for 300 BO instead and havent looked back.

Yes. 223 would be fun to shoot. But I want to use it for hunting also.

I'm with Ice Cream Sandwich, I'd probably take a look at Armalite.

Heavy as in too heavy to carry walking through the woods. Or just heavier than AR 15's.
