Some seem to be unable to connect the dots to the fact that's because of the excellence of the LM

I just don't understand why we're supposed to be satisfied with mediocrity because we were awful 20 years ago. Why can't we just want to improve each year? I'm tired of people labeling fans negatigers because they question the way our coaches perform. That's what leads to tyranny. Chruis needs to keep his mouth shut.

Some seem to be unable to connect the dots to the fact that's it cause of the excellence LM has given to LSU football that allows them to even want "championships every single year".

before i go into the rest of your post....i'd like for you to explain exactly who is mediocre. or perhaps you don't quite understand what the word means, in which case I will be happy to explain it to you.

I think you made the case against your position with the use of that one word. You define LSU's performance over the last 5 years as "mediocrity"? If so, then there is no point in discussing if it's ok to criticise mediocrity. The argument is over whether LSU under Miles is mediocre. And while that is somewhat subjective, you definitely have the short end of the stick.

i'm gonna go out on a limb and say that it isn't even close to being subjective

Good Read. I like the 'enemy within' angle. There is a lot of truth to that.

Mediocrity.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

LSU is currently ranked No. 7.

When you call a message board "Tiger RANT" what else would anybody expect but that some will rant? I mean, really. This is 2012 and the entitlement mentality has taken root in every corner and crevice of human thinking. Why should LSU football be any different? Invite ranting and you get ranting. It's not rocket science.

Mature Tiger fans remember the dismal 1990’s, that unprecedented decade of athletic decadence in Baton Rouge. Six straight losing seasons in football were as intolerable as consecutive Obama terms to a tea party republican. Things were a far cry from what they are now. This was not a long time ago. It was painful.

Exactly!! We don't want to return to that painful time. We lost to Texas A&M at every opening game then lost 5 or more during the season. This is why we are complaining. We feel we are slipping back to that time.

Moreover, Warner perpetuates the very damaging myth that LSU is somehow destined to revert to mediocrity if and when Miles departs; that LSU's baseline is, in fact, rank ordinariness. Both tiresome and inaccurate.

While I certainly agree that if Miles leaves, LSU does not revert to the Curley Hallman days, I would expect a reasonable person to also conced that Miles' baseline -- finishing in the top ten almost every year is also above the program baseline. If we put in generic Coach X, LSU probably reverts closer to its historic norm of a lower top 25 program with the occassional title here and there. Look at where Arkansas is as a program (not this year, the last 10) for an example. But we wouldn't become Ole Miss. Hell, this is only Saban's second SEC title at Alabama. It's hard to win titles.

quote:

Also, I think it's telling that the more championships Saban wins, the more determined some LSU fans are to loudly denounce him with tired old sobriquets like "midget." It smacks of desperation and bitterness. Better to just admit that Saban has the better of it right now and hope that LSU reverses the situation and ascends to dominance. That's at least rational.

He's the head coach of Alabama. Screw him. Screw Muschamp and Richt and Sumlin, too. They are our rivals, and LSU fans should be making fun of these coaches with whatever sobriquets at their disposal, old or new.

Miles and Saban have split their last four meetings, but I would argue Miles "outcoached" Saban in three of those games. Certainly, Saban won the BCSCG by a wide margin, but this year's game I felt Saban was actually out-gameplanned and out-adjusted. Miles and LSU dictated the pace of that game and also found unique ways to attack Bamas defense they seemed unprepared for. In the end, the ball bounces the wrong way a few times and we play crappy defense on the final drive, giving Bama the win. But I don't think Miles was outcoached in that game by any means. In fact, I think he had Saban on his heels all night. But sometimes you can have a great plan and still lose. That's the way the ball bounces.

Finally, did Warner really compare rankled LSU fans to fascist traitors in a bloody civil war that consumed about half a million lives?

That's just looking to be offended. I don't care. The term "fifth columnist" has become part of the lexicon.

quote:

There is a nuanced dialogue to be had about LSU football, but Warner certainly isn't the one to have it.

Sure. Calling people who disagree with you a bunch of names is a pretty rotten talking point. It's clearly preaching to the choir.

I think most of the self-professed (or easily pinpointed) "nega-tigers" on here are pretty damn ridiculous in many, if not most, of their stances.

I think acting like they have any sort of effect on anything beyond what they post on internet message boards or say on radio talk shows (as Warner clearly attempts to assert in this piece) is pretty much equally ridiculous.

So we are slipping back to losing our non-conference game every year because I am pretty sure we are like 33-1 in OOC under Miles

We are slipping back to losing to A&M every year by beating them?

Do you see were yalls logic is flawed? Texas is slipping, USC is slipping, Michigan is slipping...LSU is rising
