Was just thinking with all of the back and forth over the last 24 hours... wasn't the Gator Bowl at one time considered a close to top tier bowl?

It is, just not in the eyes of the SEC who is influenced by the large amounts of money that Chick-Fil-A spends with the conference and its TV partners.

It is all about the money.

ChickFilA is an excellent sponser for their bowl game. And they spend a lot of money on the conference. This has allowed the ChickFilA Bowl to pay its participants more money.

The Gator Bowl is sponsered by Taxslayer.com. They have lost much prestige over the past 10 years.

At one time the Gator was a much bigger deal than the "Peach". But now the Chick-Fil-A is a bigger deal and its not even close.

Ole Miss is playing in January. Don't let the date of the game mislead you.

I believe it is the Tax Slayer Gator Bowl.

The Peach was fairly prestigious. Then they let "ChikFilA" buy the rights. Now it sounds like a 3rd tier bowl. Pretty sure the payout for the ChikFilA is a good bit higher than the Gator bowl though, so that makes it better. The perception nationally may not agree with that though.

ETA: It is higher than the Outback bowl as well. I wish they still had the "Peach" bowl, "Tangerine" bowl, etc.

Since the Gator Bowl is played on New Years Day and is not named solely for a corporate sponsor, it's a better bowl.
