thought of this last night during the game...and I am torn on it.

Saban signs Drew Brees, he doesn't go to Bama, and the Saints don't get Brees, Saints don't win the SuperBowl...Miles has one maybe 2 more national championships as a result?

Personally, I'm glad the way things worked out. If Saban had gotten Brees he would probably still be there with Drew...but who knows.

As a Saints and LSU fan, getting the Saints a Superbowl win was huge...but having 4 NC's would be awesome too.

Yes

I don't give a shite about the Saints, and in that scenario Saban doesn't go to Bama making LSU second fiddle to Bama.

Yep. Brees to Miami, Saban stays put. I'll pull for the Saints, but pro football is basically irrelevant to me other than something to kill time on Sunday afternoon.

Man, frick the Saints.

frick em hard. They could never win another game again if it would give LSU another title.

Saban needs to still be in Miami.

i think if Brees goes to Miami but Saints still get Sean Payton, Payton wouldve found a QB for his system to work

I dont think it wouldve been as successful as Brees running it, and Saints may not have a superbowl win, but they would be successful

i usually hate "what if" type questions but that one's pretty good.

Saban took the Dolphins job with the understanding that he had the final say on basically everything. His defenders will tell you that the Miami doctors and others made the choice on Brees' shoulder for Saban and he had no choice in the matter while the Saints had superior medical knowledge and skill than the Dolphins and knew he'd be okay.

ETA: got crossed up between culpepper and brees' injuries

LSU success means more to me than the Saints. I put 4 1/2 years of my life into LSU therefore it will always come first. IMO

Saban wasn't succeeding at Miami even with Brees. Better question is what school is Saban at now had it happened? What big schools were looking for a coach the following year? I assume he would have only lasted one more year before jumping...

You people are nuts. Saints' first Super Bowl FAR outweighs another LSU NC.

Some of you are too young to remember all of Saints history, how excruciating it was for those of us there from the start.

New Orleans NEEDED Brees, and still does, for more than football.

You can't just assume Brees would have the same success. Given Payton and Brees connection and ability to be on the same page during a game is remarkable. After this season I think most people realize that while Brees is great, Payton made this team what it is.
So I think Saban might have stayed a little longer in the NFL but who knows. He still could have ended up at Bama.

I love LSU more than is probably healthy, but no. The Saints Super Bowl is and will likely always be my favorite sporting event I've ever seen. Words cannot describe how important that was to so many

I know this may be blasphemy to the school of thought that says Saban is this great demigod of a coach, and the only reason he didnt succeed in Miami was due to a fluke of bad fortune, in that the team forced him to pull the trigger on Culpepper versus taking a chance on Brees. However, I'm not completely convinced that HE has much different results with the Dolphins, if he had gotten Brees. I cetainly don't think he would have mirrored Payton's success.

No because Saban would have left anyway. He couldn't hack it in the NFL no matter who his QB was. Sean Payton's system made Brees what he is. I like Brees in New Orleans.
