You can't shoot it off your back either.
The main things the lever has is short OAL, very slim receiver, and instant follow ups.
It might be worthless in norf LA, but in balls deep slop and shuck grass it is not only still relevant, it is flat out better than everything else.

I had a 336 in .35 Remington, mint condition, never fired, and I sold it. Bought it from a co worker who wouldn't hunt with it or shoot it because it was so dang pretty. Maple stump wood stock with real tight wood rings and gold trigger. It was so good looking just to take it out of the case and look at it. Way too pretty to hunt with. I kept it for about 5 years and finally sold it because I couldn't see keeping a modern firearm and never using it. Sure was a pretty thing, though. I've always wanted one of these: LINK
If I couldn't have the 141, I'd settle for a model 760. I really like that .35 Remington caliber. But then again, yall know I'm an old school type of feller.

That was the first rifle i bought my son. Cut the stock down to fit him & that bitch would bust my eye almost every time i shot it. He killed several deer with it. He's still got it but we need a bigger stock now

Why the slim receiver? What does that do for you?

It just feels better. Nothing else really.

Gotta go with Geauxt and Alx on the utility of a lever action these days. And I also grew up using a Marlin 336 in .35 Rem. I love those things for nostalgia reasons, but I can't see a situation where I would choose it over one of my other rifles these days. Any situation up close where I think I'll need a follow up shot, I'd probably just use a shotgun. Honestly, I'm plenty fast with a bolt action if I think I need a second shot. And if for some reason I think I need a lot of shots, I'm using the AR and going ape shite on something.
Brush gun is marketing bullshite for the same kinda idiots that think the Judge is some kind of weapon of mass destruction. All bullets deflect. That's just physics.

Idk bout better. They are a little fatter.
you said short, easy to shoulder, fast follow up shots, right?
There ya go.... i bet i can stand in mud and water right beside you, shoulder and get off 5 accurate shots out of that little semi alot faster than you can with the lever... agreed? Or better yet,,, I bet you could do it, faster, better, etc...
NOW,, where did Alx go and leave me here?

I've been looking at the marlin 45-70 guide gun. Not a specific purpose other than I want it.
Anybody have any experience with them?

I'll still hunt with my 94 most of the time. Biggest reason is I like it and it fits me perfectly. 95% of the time the longest ethical shot I can take due to the brush is 125-150 yards. I feel confident using iron sights at that distance and have supreme confidence in that particular gun. If hunt a place with long shots I'll take my 300. Buckshot is illegal most places I hunt plus I can't take a 100+ yard shot with it and feel ethical.
I know there are lots of arguements for "better" guns or calibers but it is more than capable of doing what I ask. Lets face it at 75 yards or less, which is where most of my shots are taken at, if I'm shooting something like a 7mm or my 300 its overkill.
