As far as recent coaching brain farts for Saban, look at the Aggie game. Best GD offensive line in decades and Grade A running backs. 4 minutes left in the game. 1 and goal on the Aggies' six yard line. Run. PASS? PASS? PASS? Really? Is that all you can muster with the line of the Decade (Century?) offensive line?
Well, that doesn't really matter now that they still have the opportunity to go to the NCG. That game has been rendered meaningless. LSU is out of the picture for even a BCS bowl at this point.
My overall issue with Miles, and I think I echo some of the same sentiments of a lot of tiger fans, is that if Miles was a more competent game manager and developed players better on the offensive side, then LSU may have garnered a handful more wins during his tenure. Those wins could potentially have netted another championship.
I am speaking specifically of 06, which I, along with many believe was the most talented LSU team. I remember reading an article from a national source that said had anyone else been coaching the Tigers during games LSU would have another championship. The overall feeling was that team was above all others from a talent standpoint.
Miles is a great recruiter. He also is really good at preparing his team for big games when given the time. He always manages to get his players to play really hard for him and he is passionate about LSU football. He is only a so-so game manager and is prone to wacky decisions at times. He also seems to struggle in offensive player development, especially at the QB and skill positions. There is no excuse for the veritable black hole at QB for 4 years. Jefferson seemed to regress as a passer.
Also, as another poster pointed out yesterday, last year was an anomaly of sorts. LSU handily beat a lot of its opponents and for the most part seemed disciplined. Miles' previous teams always left a bit to be desired in the discipline category i.e. penalties. A few of his early teams were almost dead last in the country in penalties and they typically reside in the bottom 25% other times. The perception is that Saban was more exacting and ran a tighter ship. The contrast was noticeable to some.

The Root of the Les Criticism
Simple answer....
1. The Hat (or at least the way he wears it)
2. The strange things he says in press conferences and his mannerisms
Thats as deep as it gets. Some will attempt to throw other irrelevant shite in there but theres your answer.
Take away those two things and he is looked at in the same light as Saban, Carroll, M Brown, B Stoops, U Meyer, or any other coach you care to name. Wins and Losses are ALL that matter in the big picture. Then if you want to compare all the elite coaches, national titles come into play.
You, in your own mind may rank Miles at or near the bottom of "elite" coaches, be he IS an elite coach nonetheless.

We are not the only team in the country who fields top 5 talent consistently and then lets a few games get away from us. Alabama has done the same, and are very lucky to have gotten back into the big game last season and possibly this season.

He is a great recruiter but he is average at best when it comes to actual game day coaching.
The same can be said about P Carroll. Who ever pegged HIM as a great X's and O's guy?

Bottom line is we know we can get talent and win alot of games with any coach. We are not going to get Nick Saban or Kevin Sumlin. We have Les Miles and need to learn to accept that.

I was pissed too, but gotta keep in mind the other shite that was going on at the time. I remember listening to the game on the radio as I had electricty but nothing else, no cable, no internet, nada. It sucked and that night made it worse.

It just is inexcusable since it is ole miss. I think arkansas is a more well known commodity then ole miss, especially at the time in 2009.

2008 was worse. 31-13 was it? I can't even bear to look the game up. Ole Miss crushed us. That's the game people should hammer on.
2009? Meh. Don't care. If someone is still upset about a game management decision in 2009 in a game that had no impact on our season, SEC finish, or bowl bid... then I think that person needs anger counseling.

disagree with blaming Miles for 1.9.12 - I think it had more to do with the previous 13 games than anything Miles or anyone else did. That team had one hell of a run and just did not have one more game in them.

Miles is a great game day coach. I only say this because he has won 85 out of 105 games. That's not luck and that is no accident. It's preparation and hard work. We run a grinding ground game that kills closck and keeps are D fresh to beat down teams late in the game. It's very effective. I only believe this because we are in the top ten every year and under Miles we have been to two NC games. Saban made us good, Miles has made us a dominant power house. And the guy is a phenomonal recruiter. In 105 games under Miles we have only been outplayed a handful of times and no one wants to play us at home.

Cholly Mac redux circa 2012?
------------
You were obviously not there when Cholly's teams were getting butt-kicked by Kentucky and manhandled by a physically superior Tulane in his last regular season game as LSU coach.
Cholly had brought us to mediocre. That's why he was fired, not because he couldn't beat Bear. There were a lot of teams we weren't beating. Les is in no way comparable.

Mac, like Bowden, well overstayed his useful tenure.
But he won 6 or 7 games regularly against poor teams and folks were afraid to change.
I was pleased to help Mac pack after the game passed him by....

Inferior recruiting performance at QB and inferior offensive schemes and coaching.

Bitch Bitch Bitch... I really want to hear who do you get that will do better! Who that is worth a crap comes to a program that lets a coach go with this kind of record.
I would like to know who rather than just he has to go!
So for all the nay sayers... Enlighten us on just who the HELL this is to replace him!

Alabama has won 2 out of 3 National Championships and has a distinct possibility of making it 3 out of 4. That very easily could be us but its not. That's my point. it's those one or two games that have kept us from multiple BCS titles. It sounds like bitching but it's not.

I hate when people say well who woul d you hire if not miles. There are plenty of coaches that could do a great job. Patterson, sumerlin, kelly, kelly, stanford coach, strong, snyder, muschamp, spurrier, mullem, smart, etc etc. The fact is Louisiana is a hot bed of talent and saban started the trend of keeping in state players. Miles has done a good job maintaining that but to act like we couldn't do better is just naïve and plain stupid.

Can be summed up in three words:
He's.
Not.
Nick.
This has ALWAYS been the problem for some, and since day one have looked for reason to vilify the guy. That's not to say he's been perfect...no coach ever has been. But then that's the point, isn't it? Miles is seemingly held to standard literally no other coach is, or has been. We've got people bitching on this site because they are unable to see that other than BAMA there is literally no other program in the nation we ought to envy... It's not debatable that Les has been more successful then Nick was as LSU's coach. The numbers don't lie. Les' problem was that where Nick was able to tell the fans to essentially go frick themselves because he was working on the process (and for the first time in the history of our state EVERYONE seemed to get on board) Les seems more affable and more of a target for criticism. Truth is for some here, no amount of winning or championships or anything would make Miles equal to their long lost unrequited love now residing in Tuscaloosa.
This deserves to be cataloged in the TD "best of" page. Every time people bitch about Les, this should be posted.
