Jon Gruden is planning on visiting University of Tennessee officials in regards to their head coach opening. What is Gruden saying about the meeting and how should fans interpret his response?

Well it looks like you guys have a head coaching opening, you will need a head coach to fill this opening. I would hire a head coach.

Good Luck.

Gets back on the plane.

He could just do this over the phone and save you guys some money.

Just gut instinct, I'd put our chances at around 35%. I do know that certain boosters and our athletic department have been in touch with Gruden over the last three or so weeks. This isn't some knew development. I'd say the fact that some source, whether with Gruden or Tennessee, is slowly releasing information about a meeting bodes well for us.

Just posted by Wes Rucker.

* We reported this time yesterday that we had good reason to think UT athletic director Dave Hart was planning to finally meet with at least one coaching candidate face to face. At the time we speculated that Miami head coach Al Golden or North Carolina head coach Larry Fedora would make the most sense, but now it’s pretty clear that JON GRUDEN JON GRUDEN JON GRUDEN was the man. We now believe Hart was scheduled to meet with Gruden, but that Gruden called it off. Does that take him off the table? We don’t know that yet. But obviously it doesn’t sound good and isn’t what a ton of UT fans wanted to hear. We’ve always said we’d have to see it to believe it with Gruden, and this is part of the reason why we’ve said that. Gruden doesn’t want to give much in these kinds of situations, and he’s in a comfortable position that affords him that luxury. In short, you give him essentially everything he wants or don’t get him. And that doesn’t mean just money.

He then goes on to say that he's not ready to rule Gruden out, and word is that there is legitimate interest between both parties.

The theme has been Gruden wants it all, most money, unlimited control. We may change the game when it comes to what a program is willing do to hire a proven winner.

* The last thing we want to do is keep everyone hoping for no reason, but we still aren’t closing the book on Gruden. Why? Because we heard Wednesday night from a source close to Gruden that plenty of people in coaching circles were surprised at the news that Gruden called off a meeting with Hart, because Gruden and especially his wife have definitely been interested in the UT job. We heard from one of our better sources in the coaching business — again, someone who knows Gruden — that Gruden’s wife has preferred UT (her alma mater and home region) and has asked her husband to find a way to make it happen. So while Wednesday’s news definitely didn’t look good for UT, we can’t rule Gruden out at this point. We’ve even heard a tiny bit of pure speculation that suggests Wednesday’s news could cool everyone’s jets on the Gruden situation and allow both parties a bit more time to work on finding more middle ground before a potential face-to-face meeting. We’re not saying we believe that, but we’d be lying if we didn’t mention that we’ve heard that speculation. It could mean things are done, but we’re not reporting that at this point because we don’t know that to be true.

IMHO, Gruden needs to shite or get off the pot. His pulling at UT fans heart strings and hope is not kosher man. He needs to take the job or not take it now. I hope y'all get him. I'd love to see him in our conference and i'm not enjoying Tennessee being down.

Tirico was right there, so is he #2 on Tennessee's Santa wishlist this year?

Recruits would line up for him.

What was that? Like 12 years ago? With Dungy's team? And an epic collapse and firing afterwards? That would be about like hiring Larry Coker today and calling him a "proven winner."

Why not hire Jimmy Johnson? He's won on both levels.
