I guess.
You couldn't get Coors East of Texas and NASCAR wasn't popular outside of the South, so I guess it made sense at the time.

Yeah, I get all that. They also arbitrarily added about 600 miles to the trip, saying that an 1200 mile round trip was 1800 miles. I read Texarkana was in a dry county at that time as well. Really makes me think that they picked it solely for the song.
