Not sure if you eat at upscale restaurants often (you posted like you don't), but please don't go in there being nitpicky and looking for reasons to tip less than what they deserve. You have $150 free money to a great restaurant, for crying out loud! $30 of your own won't hurt you.

Not sure what this has to do with the OP. The poster is probably a young guy (we assume) but why the hell go straight to the "tip well" shite? WTH is that? If he spends the $120 and tips $30 thats 25% or so. Hell it don't take many trips to a table at RC to run up a $120 bill. He never insinuated he would stiff the waiter during this outing. He asked a question then was bashed for something it was assumed he would do. This board has literally gone to shite and does not serve the purpose it once did.

Completely agree poche, the guy comes and ask what to expect as he has never been there before and gets accused of being a jackass. And who said it was free money? How do we know the gift card was not in exchange for work he did or something similar

And on a different note, why he hell can't I tip with a gift card? How is it ant different to the restaurant than paying with a cc? Had it happen to me once and I refuse to go back to that restaurant

I liked this board much better when we actually discussed cooking instead of being a restaurant reviewing and bitching board

The OP did say this earlier in the thread:

quote:

I won't be tipping more than 30$ for two people that's cray cray

That being said, it could be taken differently by anyone.

30$ on a 150$ tab, would be OK. 30$ on a 300$ tab would be poor.

I have no dog in this fight, just saying that the OPs choice of words could have been a little better there.

Oh quit being a drama queen. It was really only one person ripping on the O-T about the tip. I think most people responded in a good way about the restaurant and what to order.

Actually he said he'd never tip more than $30 for 2 people because that would be quote "cray cray"
If he actually tipped $30, that's great! If that's the max he's willing to tip no matter what the server does or how much he orders, that's sucky considering that's the only money coming out of pocket.

And unless you're blind, I didn't bash anyone nor did I say anything rude to this dude. He made it very obvious through his posts that he's likely young and doesn't eat meals like Ruth's often. I told him the SAME thing I tell my brother when he goes to dinners like that since he also doesn't do it often.

Sorry this board doesn't serve the purpose you'd like because people give young dudes advice on tipping, but I sure as shite ain't coming in here recommending my roommate (who serves at Ruth's) to someone who sets a tip limit before he walks in the door.
