I was visiting family in Atlanta and whoever bought the oysters for the dressing got something other than gulf oysters.

They were EASILY 3x the size of Gulf oysters. Anyone know what they were. (I didn't look at the container)

ETA: Please move to food board

I don't know. But every time I get the buffalo fried oysters at The Munch Factory I can't help but wonder where they come from because they're pretty big over there too.

And ridiculously delicious

It's because of the oil spill and the dispersants they used. Mutant oysters now.

Or oyster AIDS?

We found oysters in Africa that were enormous. Almost unbelievably enormous. The shell for one of them was nearly the size of a dinner plate.

Big ones do come from the Gulf. Guess, you just gotta time it right.

Probably Willow Point Pacific oysters. They are distributed throughout GA. They sell them shelled in 1/2 pint and pint sizes.

Could have been Blue Point oysters(from the North east) or west coast oysters. They have some west coast oysters that I brought into my place during the oil spill when I couldn't get gulf oysters that were just huge. Like 3-4 times the size of our oysters.
