so why not give them the penalty and review the play anyway?
you can't answer that. Becuase there is no answer.
The answer is he can't benefit from a penalty. Agree, disagree, that's the rule and Schwartz should know it. There was no hurry, not like he needed to throw the flag to keep them from running another play.

I can answer it. To prevent coaches from challenging an auto review play. Pretty easy.

2. You can't benefit on a ruling after a penalty called on you.
See this is what I dont get. They would still be penalized if it was reviewed and reversed
Texans ball for a first and 15 yards. The Lions are getting plenty punished for a bad call on the field. They gain no advantage throwing that flag because it was going to reviewed anyway

No one thinks they didn't deserve a penalty
No way should that null a review from the booth. Hell, take a time out, give them 15 yards, but review the damn play
I can get behind that. I think just 15 yards would be fair. I think the current rule is perfectly fair too. As long as the coach knows about it before hand. It just really isn't a rule where the severity is that important because it just should not EVER have to be used.

I don't think anyone is.defending the idiot for not knowing the rule.
I think the question is of you.are reviewing it anyway ,the game isn't being slowed down any extra, so tack on the 15 and review it.
Seems like more time was wasted there than a normal review would take.

The 15 yards will do that just as effectivly, and why is challenging an auot reviewable play such a god damn travesty?

that makes no sense.
how do you benefit from a penalty if they penalize you?

A truly dumb reason for allowing a touchdown that wasn't.
If it's going to be reviewed, anyway, there is absolutely no harm in ASKING FOR A REVIEW.
It's a dumbfrick rule.

that is why the penalty flag was thrown
why can't the refs review it like they are supposed to after the penalty if enforced?
that is the question.

Ya he's.acting as if the red flag is tacking on time to a review already going on

Yep, I hate the "it slows down the game" crowd
20 commercial breaks in a quarter slows down the game. throwing a flag does not

It just doesn't matter that much. It's not a rule that should ever be used. You people act like the flag fell out of his pocket and could very easily effect the course of other games.
It was the coaching blunder of the century. It is so easy to just not throw the flag when you know the penalty for doing so. It's just unfathomable that he threw it.

Just got back from the field. The rule penalizing Schwartz is good. The rule not allowing the play to be reviewed is horrible. Must change

Thats coming from the biggest :The ref is always right" doucher in the world

No one is defending the coach. No one
Posted on 11/22/12 at 2:28 pm to fightingtiger2335
But they are acting like he is being penalized too harshly.
Posted on 11/22/12 at 2:29 pm to TheSexecutioner
Nope. Everyone is acting like the play not being reviewable is harsh, not the 15 yards.
Posted on 11/22/12 at 2:31 pm to TheSexecutioner
15 yard penalty is fine. Play not being reviewable is too harsh in this case because it caused an obvious missed call.
Posted on 11/22/12 at 2:34 pm to TGHub
The only thing I can think is its a rule to stop coaches from showing up the officials.
