If I'm a legit team and you let me pick playing Wake 12 times in a season, or WKU 11 times and Bama once, I'm taking the Wake option every damn time.
Stanford, OU, Michigan, and USC is a solid top 4 games though, and definitely deserving of going to an NC game if the team that has that schedule goes undefeated, regardless of who else they play. I just don't see why any weight should be given to teams 8-12 on the schedule that aren't real threats, just because they've got a better name than the non-threats on everybody else's schedule.
You can't cherry pick what matters and what doesn't. Ask any coach teams aren't perfect you fall a sleep against Wake Forest or Navy and you're getting beat, you fall a sleep against Florida Atlantic you win by 3 tds

I'd feel pretty damn good about my chances as a coach leading any Top 5 team's roster against any of them 10 times out of 10 this year.
No one has said that Navy or Wake are not better than Florida Atlantic. However, Western Kentucky may be better than any of them this year. I can tell by your posts you haven't watched them play and seen the type athletes they have.
The MAC and Sunbelt have a few more decent teams in the top half than usual this year and a lot of AQ conferences are weaker at the bottom than usual as well. If you haven't noticed this, I'm not sure how much attention you're paying to college football in general when there's big a lot of news regarding the bottom halves of the Big10, ACC and SEC finding this out the hard way.
But the point is simply that this difference may matter in Indiana vs Ohio or Arkansas St vs Tennessee type matchups but shouldn't really mean nearly as much to a legit Top5 team as how many real top20 threats they face... If it does, it raises more questions about the sleepwalking top5 team than anything else.
And again ND's schedule is certainly hard enough to warrant their ranking and title game berth without doubt. It just has nothing to do with wins over the likes of Wake Forest, Navy or Purdue.
