The dude went through all that just to kill M? I like that they had it be a little less ridiculous that previous bond films but I thought his motivation should have been something a tad more ambitious.
other than that, great flick.

Killing M was a personal vendetta which he could use to destroy MI6.
IMO.

Don't like that it was basically the same motivation that Electra had in TWINE. It felt like a retread of TWINE, mixed with Goldeneye.
That being said, I enjoyed most of the execution.

Immediately after I saw it I thought the film really could have benefited from a flashback involving M and Silva.

I think that is what sets it apart

Watched it tonight, thought the exact same thing.
Also, I do think the shower scene was a bit forced, even for a playa like James Bond.

The character assassinated people as a career choice. His job was to solve problems by killing problems. He was good at it. To be good at any job, you have to love doing it. According to the script, the character had an awakening moment where his employer made a decision to let him be killed. Bond had the same moment at the beginning of the film.
Both characters faced with the same experience made opposite choices with their careers at that decision point. The story culminated with both characters pursuing opposing goals pertaining to their boss that chose to let them be killed. One chose to keep protecting her. One chose to kill her.
It is true that unlike prior villains, this villain didn't give two shits about world domination. But so what? I don't need every Bond villain to want to take over the world.
What more than revenge did you want this villain to pursue? Should he have been more materialistic? A sum of cash? Stock options? A dazzling piece of jewelry?

Who can blame the guy for wanting to kill M though. She freaking sucks. You have your best agent on top of a train fighting the bad guy and yet you can't let the situation play out and let him take care of it? God forbid he go under a tunnel. Something he had already done 2 minutes ago. Give me a break I completely understood why he wanted to kill her.
My complaints: 1. Bond making gay references. 2. The ridiculous dragons in the pit :rotfl: those sucked.

The gay stuff was weird, didn't like. Plus, they essentially copied the dark knight with the way the villain wanted to be caught.
Ending at bonds old place was a little too setup, I didn't like it. Villain should have known it was not going to be easy.
Old car was cool but then again, would have liked it better if a better ending. Sucked they blew it up.

SPOILERS BELOW:
I think it was well done because Javier Bardem gave you a real glimpse at the character's psychosis. The final scene really drove that point home for me. The only thing that bugged me about the film was the shower scene and the opening scene, neither of which were believable. Sorry, but even James Bond can't simply show up in the middle of the night while a hot girl he just met is showering and go to town. It seemed very disjointed. And the beginning was flat unbelievable. If had been a shorter fall, okay, but that was a long way down.

so they took the beginning of the man with the golden gun and turned it around.

Everything bugged me about that overrated piece of shite. Was this a Bond story, or a Bourne? Hard to distinguish considering both are ultra-simple, generic and unimaginative, etc. At least the Brosnan films had a little thought and creativity put into them.

Problem is the scripts. When they ran out of Ian Fleming books, the quality went down. CR was good because they actually followed the book.
Now Moonraker would be another book to go back and copy. The movie deviated so bad from the book, you could write a script based on the book, give it another name, and no one would know the difference.

SPOILERS
The thing that bugged me was Bond not using the knife in the underwater fight at the end. He clearly had it on him, because he used it after to kill Bardem.

I figured he got the knife from the dead guy in the pond.

I think we all would have done different stuff, still liked it.
The ending was too set up, much so for Bond
More sex scenes...this is Bond right?
Too personal with M and the dude, no master plan to destroy the world, which always works
What the hell was he gone so long for at the beginning of the film

I don't get why die-hards are upset that Bond drinks Heinkein. They should be more upset Bond implied he has had sex with men before!

How many bond films have you seen? Bond can show up at a brauds house and go to town. No matter how long he's known her.
