270 is probably your best bet although a 30-06 can't be beat as an all around gun IMO. all this considering you are just deer hunting. I personally shoot a 300 win mag for deer hunting but I dont recommend it for a novice shooter and hunter. If You ever decide to go after big game anytime down the rd then I would suggest a mag caliber.
