Is on the front page of the Sports section of the advocate. on the shorter routes he throws the ball at a downward angle.

I would have thought it was from staring down his receivers along with a long slow throwing motion.

slow throwing motion? its not that bad but maybe you are seeing something I am not. I think it has much to do with play calling and the short passing. I think these short passes, you sort of have to stare them down to some degree b/c of how quick the route is developed and when thrown. Defenders are taking advantage of this. Wonder if it's more of an issue for right side passes? I can't recall

His release is very slow!

I can't count the number of times the WR's have had to kneel or dive to get a chance at catching the ball on a stop route.
That being said, I don't know that he can throw it over an outstretched arm at the LOS and have it drop on the shorter routes without lobbing it. A lot of these blocks are just luck.

He wants to be more like Drew Brees.

He looks like an outfielder trying to throw someone out at home.

Dandy Don had a practice vid of both QB's prior to season. was pretty neat b/c you got a camera view from the receiver location.

Didn't Eric Reid say in the fall that the db's are frustrated because Mett put the ball only where the receiver can catch it. What has happened from then to now?

They are getting knocked down because they are quick 3 step drops that put him.closer to the line of scrimmage. All opposing defenses know that we throw 80% short and they know they cannot get there with the pass rush. So the best way to defend this is to get their hands up.

Remember when Jamarcus used to throw too high and people said it was because he was so tall and the crown of the field caused it. I always thought it was funny, some of the bullshite excuses people came up with for why the qb doesn't get the job done.

Also, we throw 80% of our passes to the outside, so defenders can anticipate the throws in most cases. Typically, the Oline cut blocks for 3 step drops to get the defenders down and create throwing lanes. If the defenders are upright when the throw is made, then the chances of a batted pass are higher.

To me it looks as though he throws flat and low on short routes while giving clues about the targets. Can there really be another explanation?

how else is a tall QB going to throw short routes to short wrs?

Our defense bats down a ton of balls to. It's not that big a deal.
When you have 6ft 4in tall d-lineman jumping and putting their hands up, it is tough to throw over them unless you are going deep.

That and the line on short routes should be cutting the D line.

Well, there's 9 in the box, with no fear of anything happening over their heads between the hashes.
We don't play action enough to even respect the possibility. Since our TE's are attached to the hips of our tackles, the DE's are better served to time a deflection than rush the QB.
It's a self fulfilling prophecy when you never establish the ability to throw the ball consistently. What I can't understand is why play action and TE seam routes are not used, when we've established the run.
Our routes are not complex, and surely Mett is not given more than two possible targets. How can the fake be that disruptive to his read, mechanics, or release. And, if so, why is he still taking all of the snaps?

That's idle. The NFL loves QBs that throw downward on short routes.
