A group of LSU students say it feels like a small part of them was stolen by the school when a photo of them was altered to remove crosses before it was sent in a mass email. The Painted Posse is a group of devout Tigers fans who are also devout Christians. They honor both passions every Saturday by donning full body paint, which includes a cross above their hearts.

But that cross was missing from a photo of the group when LSU used it Tuesday in its weekly Geaux-Mail newsletter. (Both the original and altered photos are attached on the bottom of this page.) In a statement to NBC33, LSU said: "We don't want to imply we are making any religious or political statements, so we air-brushed it out. Only one of the students, who didn't appreciate it (airbrushing the photo) actually contacted us about it. So next time, we'll just chose a different photo." LSU said that it has the legal right to change the photo based on the release on the back of each fan's ticket.

A victory for censorship advocates everywhere. Its BS. Show them as they are or don't show them at all. Censoring them is garbage.

And if I wear a turbin to the game, will they make sure not to show me on television?

There is no back to student tickets, or anywhere on the face of the ticket that says their photo can be altered.

LSU actions were entirely warranted. A state funded university should not disseminate images or communications explicitly or implicitly endorsing one religion.

P.S. The students in question are pussies for whining about the airburshing. They essentially got to be the poster boys for a fantastic home victory, and their response is to lament some painted f*cking crosses? Hypersensitive.

I'm opposed to all forms of censorship so I'm opposed to this case as well. Sad.

What makes it a cross and not a lower case "t" ? LSU assumed it's meaning and acted upon the assumption. Maybe the PP (if any read this board) should change it to have the symbol followed by "- igers".

I imagine they were just preempting the bitching from some martyr atheist that would have inevitably felt threatened and offended.

These guys should ask them to remove the picture. It is an intentional misrepresentation. 3rd parties should not be upset about this (i.e. all of us), but anyone who says the people involved don't have a right to be has an agenda. Simple as that.

As a self proclaimed fatty, the only cross they should be worried about is crossfit.

I have no problem with them having the crosses painted on their chest but I also think that it was in LSU best interest to remove them. In a society today where everyone is offended by something, you can not show any ties to one religious belief. Some would say that LSU should just not post the pic if they have to remove the crosses; I would also agree with that.
