It's been since 1998 that Louisiana took home a medal. How many more years before this state brings home a medal?

With shiner taking like 4 medals maybe it won't be too long. Dunno though, there aren't a tremendous number of potential options

That's a damn shame. Abita should be ashamed of themselves and Nola or Parish will be the ones to break the streak I'm sure.

The south as whole has never really done that well. You'll see a handful of beers from NC and a few other random states win a few medals, but nothing dominant. The numbers just aren't in our favor. LINK

The thing about GABF, is they have so many different categories, its easier to win a medal. I've had all of the Texas beers that won and they're all mediocre beers.
Texas Beers at GABF

I think you mean to say mediocre categories. It is impossible to make the best beer in the world in the Pilsner category or Marzen category.

English Pale Ale and Scotch Ale categories are not mediocre styles IMO. I agree w/ the pilsner, lager categories being mediocre styles and it would seem near impossible to judge differences among the top beers in the style.

GABF and other comps are not a reflection of whether a beer is good or not. It is a reflection of if it meets some arbitrary style guidelines. Some of the best breweries in the US have never won anything. I personally usually prefer beers that aren't true to some style and are awesomely unique and delicious in their own way.

I agree. Abita's been brewing since 1986 and has never won at GABF. I'd be embarrassed if I was running the show over there in Abita Springs.

Agreed, but it has nothing to do with gabf.
