On a different note, do you know anything about watching the Astros in Louisiana going forward?
Nope. They are on a brand new station. I'd guess it'll take time, will proceed West to East, and will be very provider dependent.
About Charter: I have no knowledge of these negotiations, but I think they caved before due to NBA pressure and the relocation threat, but that was to add a channel. If I had to guess, the issue is either fees or whether they will remain as a basic station, or both. I am thinking a deal gets done.
But call, people. Call. Make them give you what is yours or leave. Have the DirecTV number handy when you call Charter. Tell them your new account number is (877) 847-0680.

Reading about all of this really makes you wonder why the hell they allowed CST to be so shitty for so long.

They were contractually obligated and had no leverage. That's like asking why CP3 waited until last year to force his way out. He didn't have the leverage to make it happen on his terms any earlier.
And props to 42 for beating the "professionals" to the answer for what might have been the most asked question of the off season

I know, I guess what I mean is why did they agree to such a shitty deal to begin with.

I hear they're going to broadcast the "Battle of Nashville Avenue" McMain vs Lusher on November 1st.

From what the old timers have said, the money from the Cox deal was pretty essential to the Hornets being able to move to New Orleans in the first place. Not to mention Shinn didn't exactly run his organization very well.

I think the upfront money and relocation efforts were factors, as stated above, for getting locked into that deal. This deal has about thr same upfront money, and it's 10y later. It was the smallest deal in the NBA and still is in all likelihood, but the relative value was swollen, as this deal shows. They can play a different game now.
As far as others go... not all media outlets can get so boring and detailed in their pieces... so there is that.
Lastly, I hope you guys realize that your questions were considered and were part of the conversation with John. You have a voice that matters.
I'd like to say thanks for that.

Personally, I'd rather see Atlanta Braves games than Rangers games. I wonder if there was a way they could put a vote out there to see which MLB team they should exclusively show. Especially if Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi are in the viewing area. There is probably more Braves fans that will get this channel than Rangers or Astros fans
Louisiana is in the Rangers blackout area, so fans in these areas can only see the games on the tv and not on MLB.tv or even on ESPN when they broadcast the game; Braves fans can get the braves on MLB.TV as far as the Astros, the Astros basically screwed over their fans in Louisiana by going to a new Network Comcast Sports Houston.
Personally I am happy well because I'm a Rangers fan, and wont have to wait for a day when the Lastros are off or playing a day game at wrigley field like i had to this year.

I wonder if LUS in Lafayette is going to carry it

Does it have Fox Sports Southwest now?
If so, then almost certainly. According to Heidtke, they do, so you should be in business.
Let me know.
ETA: Fox Sports Houston counts. So, it should be on 31 and 1031.

What do you think a "soft launch" would consist of, and when do you think they'd do it? Could it mean maybe showing a preseason game? The last preseason game on 10/26 is nationally televised on ESPN, so I'd think it would have to be the second to last, on 10/24.

What you'll see on Fox Sports New Orleans without them having the graphic up, changing the websites over, etc. They seem to want to hype it and clarify the change to the consumers.
Here are the main things they want out there. Where you found Fox Sports Southwest or Houston before, now you will find Fox Sports New Orleans. It's a new package, new focus, but not a new `channel' since you can find it where you always did before.
They aren't going to show a preseason game, to my understanding.
They are not Hornets focused, which in a sense, makes sense. Hornets games and "shoulder programming" (a cool kid phrase) occupy . . . what . . . 16h a week? That leaves 152 to go. I'm guessing the infrastructure guys are seemslessly coming from FS Houston, so no real issue there, but no real opportunity to get into the original content.
Given all that, I'm shocked these dudes called. Then, they called back to say thanks and talk more . . . got added to media list and get some follow-ups in necessary. Their press stuff will be passed along.
Gotcha covered, HT.
I mean . . . gotcha covered, sons.

42, you may not have an answer to this, but do you have any idea if they will broadcast preseason games in the coming seasons?
Posted on 10/12/12 at 9:26 pm to CP3forMVP
I have no idea, and I don't think they know, truth be told.
If I had to guess, no more than two next preseason, but that's pure speculation. It's reasoned speculation based on what some other teams get from FS (see Thunder), but it's just out of my head nevertheless.
The question is noted, and it is a good one.

Good news but bummed about not being able to watch the Astros. Been watching them for years especially since their AAA club used to be the New Orleans Zephyrs.

Charter is one of the most hated companies in America (of course, Cox is also on the list).
LINK
In any event, as far as Hornets coverage is concerned, Charter has established itself as a worthless donkey dick over the last few years. Thank God I live on the South Shore.

From what I read tonight, it doesn't necessarily mean no Astros in LA. The Comcast station is still negotiating with just about all the providers.
