The answer is DiMaggio. Brees can't be pitched around.

When's the last time someone came close to Joe's hitting streak?
1978 Pete Rose at 44 games.

With much better pitching, situational pitchers, the intentional walk, rising strikeout rates, I doubt it ever gets broken. Less than 1% chance.
There is ZERO chance in our lifetime.

Thought wee reached 45

It is the most impressive, most likely to stand the test of time record in sports
A lot of the older baseball records will never be touched. Joe's record is so impressive because it came in the "middle era" of baseball and is so far in front of anything before or after.
Wilt has about 60 NBA records that will never be sniffed.

I think it was 44 one year and he had one carryover game

nobody cares about Brees' "record" its a contrived record that Brees and hte Saints have drummed up to be something special. its meaningless and nobody really cares about it outside of NO

Dimaggio's hitting streak is way more impressive and improbable. A hitter usually gets 4-5 plate appearances a game while the QB gets to throw the ball over 30 times or in Brees' case 40 times a game.
Dimaggio's is significantly more difficult but that's a terrible comparison.

Someone did a statsitical model of 1930s baseball and found a 56 game hit streak was fairly likely (something like 15 or 20%), but it didn't necessarily have to be DiMaggio. For example, in 1936, the league wide AL batting average was .289. Hitting .300 was just above average. Hitting streaks were far more likely then.
With the way the game is played now with so many strikeouts, it's unlikely to be broken until a major stylistic change. But in the 30s? It wasn't THAT shocking it happened.

So I guess If ROMO had done this it WOULD mean something??

And then after it ended, he went on a 17 gamer the next day

I could care less if it was Romo, Brees or Otto freaking Graham that did it. it is a stupid record.
I'm quite sure if teams threw the ball as much as NO does back in the day and if the rules favored the offense as much as they do now, there would be many many qbs that had those same stats.
its meaningless. I guess when you are 0-4 you have to hang on to something.
was funny watching the drugged out Payton up in his crows nest fidgeting and looking overall weird all night
