I assume you mean slam fire where you can just hold the trigger down and not reset it every time you cycle the lever? Good question.

Nice rig!
However, we don't live in the bush. Dogs and people are the main concern. Black bears run from a slingshot, brown bears are only around for a few weeks in the early spring, and the moose are easily avoided (not going to drop one of those big bastards with any pistol anyway).
That said, your rig looks very functional. Tell me more about it, especially the holster. That looks perfect for when we do go out into the bush. You've got my interest.

My advice, as suggested by others on here, is to take her to a gun store and let her hold some full sized 9mms.
The reason I suggest the M&P is because they have interchangeable back straps for different sized hands. The "small" one is very very slim and would be perfect for her I assume. Or you can check out Kahr's line of handguns. They are single-stack and provide a great slim grip.
Have a Daddy/Daughter day and go to the gun store. You will be sure to find some good stuff.

Whatever the rifleman had. He just worked the lever. Faster than any six shooter in the west.

I watch it also. Love that show.

The Ruger SR9 you suggested interests me due to the high capacity (if she can hold it). The M&P and the Kahr simply don't hold the quantity of bullets I'd like her to have. I want her to have enough rounds to fend off multiple dogs.

With all due respect - and I'm sure you've considered this, .380's and .22 Magnums mean she'll probably have to make a very good shot, under high stress, if the attacker is determined (i.e. not deterred by the the presence of a gun).
I understand the issue of small hands. Have you looked into a Glock 19 with a grip reduction ?
Robar & Bowie Tactical do very good work.
You'll have 16 rounds of 9mm in a very dependable weapon, with less recoil, much better penetration and much better expansion than a .380 Bersa. Load it with HST or Ranger-T ammo, and she should be reasonably well-equipped for the threats you described.

I agree w/ Bapple's thoughts.
Yep. Had a misfire w/ my 22 LR this weekend while squirrel hunting. Fortunately for me, the squirrel was in retreat, not attack mode!
Yep, Yep and Yep.
Also, I'd like to point out that a 22 Magnum bullet fired out of a 4.3" barrel (like the PMR-30) has much less velocity than the same bullet fired out a rifle. In short, depending on the particular load, the velocity of a 22 Mag fired from a pistol barrel may be less than the velocity of a 22 LR fired from a rifle barrel. Here's a good thread w/ measured handgun barrel velocitis of numerous 22 Mag rounds.

It's not that the gun would be unreliable, it's that rimfire ammo is inherently unreliable. I would never trust my life on it.

A full sized 9mm will have less felt recoil than a compact .380, ammo will be cheaper, and you can hold many more rounds in a double stack magazine.

With all due respect, why waste money getting a Glock with a slimmer grip when you can buy a handgun that already has it? I also think the SR9 and M&P far surpass Glock in terms of grip slimmness, grip angle, sights, and features from the factory. If I were buying a gun for a younger shooter, I think I would prefer it to have a loaded chamber indicator, which the Glock lacks and the others have. The SR9 also has a safety in case the OP wants her to have that.
And I'm not sure what I'm missing here but I think both the SR9 and M&P9 can hold 17 rounds. I know my SR9 can hold 17 rounds and I'm pretty sure I've fired an M&P that fits 17 rounds. But, the SR9 is more affordable and I think it would be perfect for you since it has a thumb safety and a loaded chamber indicator. It also has a magazine disconnect safety but I would suggest removing it once you get it. Luckily the process of doing that isn't all that difficult.
Here is a review I did on my SR9c, which is simply the compact version of the full sized SR9. Hopefully I touch on all the points you want to hear.

EDIT: Thanks for backing me up TigerOTH. I also didn't consider the lower 22WM velocities out of a short barrel. That explains the PMR30 fireball I've seen before.

I guess the laws in Alaska are more relaxed for juveniles packing pistols.
Would be illegal here.
ETA: There are exceptions and ways around it though.
As long as she's well trained I guess it's cool.

That's exactly what I thought when I saw "14." I know in LA the law is 17 years old to OC. But then again, Alaska is a constitutional carry state, so you don't even need a CCW. I guess the age for OC is much lower.

I've been waiting on this response and thinking the same thing. Not knocking the idea, but just stating the law.

I mean when I say it is illegal. It is. But there are so many allowances that if you really want your kid to carry it isn't hard to accomplish.
I think the law serves the purpose of making it illegal for kids who aren't suppose to have guns from having them.

When he was 16 years old, my oldest boy stopped a violent high-speed home invasion by outmaneuvering and then double-tapping the BG right through the heart...dropped him dead as a doornail. No sights...just instinct shooting (Bad Guy was armed w/a 9mm pistol and was wanted for 2 counts of attempted capital murder). https://www.khou.com/news/local/65864742.html
I educate the kids how to operate under stress. I trained some of the best CQB personnel 1986-1994, and I can definitively say that all four of my kids can hold their own.
quote:Frankly, never heard of "grip reduction". I must also admit I'm not too familiar with Glocks. But this is the very type of bright idea I hoped to get from this board full of friggin ' geniuses. Thanks much for the valuable tip.

Oh, I know it is illegal. Must be 21 to carry a handgun. Times aren't the way they used to be. Although the law was the same when I was growing up, I got a Ruger 22 revolver at age 11 , bought myself a Sig P220 at age 17 and a Kimber 45 at age 19. I never ran into any trouble with them, but I didn't really run afoul of the law much either.
ETA: not saying that the OP's lawyer isn't capable of carrying a sidearm or is planning on running afoul of the law.
