I felt especially bad for Kosar seeing that he was clearly embarassed and tense when talking about his serious struggles and life issues.

When you are down to your last 50k you might as well say frick it and buy a cool car.

Exactly why these guys were featured on this documentary.

That pretty much sums up the whole 30 for 30.

I thought it was a good documentary. It definitely didn't reveal anything we didn't already know but it did give us a better understanding of just how dumb most of these players are.

Did ya see how bad Bernie was sweating omg.

most of these guys lose the biggest chunk of their money trying to invest in things

True, but I read there were good reviews on the games Shillings company were making. Not sure what happened.

I'm not sure of the ins and outs of his video game venture, but it does seem a little more legitimate than say floating furniture and giant tomatoes

he moved to rhode island (i think) b/c they offered him a huge tax credit. then they didn't deliver on the credit
he infused cash to make payroll waiting for the credit to pass. it never did

well take jamal mashburn for instance. he's presented as the "smart businessman" of the doc
what do they list his investments as?
restaurants and car dealerships, 2 of the 4 rings of pro athlete financial hell
1. record labels
2. restaurants
3. car dealerships
4. real estate

I wonder if these guys got paid for being in the film...
Posted on 10/2/12 at 10:39 pm to DriveByBBQ
i wonder if the 2 financial analysts did. the former player may not have, but the white guy with the 2 minute infomercial at the end? that's like $1-2M in advertising for this whole thing

I think his are mostly franchises in the state of Kentucky, not exactly as risky as starting a new one in a city like NY, Miami, etc

Yeah, from what I've read, he really got fricked on that deal. People were still saying it's his fault, but the government of Rhode Island recruited his company there and then reneged on what they promised. He went broke trying to keep people employed.
As big an a-hole as I think he is, he did get a pretty raw deal.

Sounds like his dad and his ex wife took him for millions. You could see the toll it took on his face.

well mark brunell had a bunch tied up to fast food chains, too. they go belly up also
i'm not saying mashburn will go broke, but he's not exactly bucking the trends
and like 5 years ago everyone was on dykstra's nuts for being a supposedly prodigal investor...and we saw what happened there
TO has a lot of stupid bills, but i think he has like $20-25M in real estate. 2008 fricked a ton of people, in and out of sports

35 million. Shilling seems to be more of just bad luck if he had that much personal cash. Took a risk and crapped out.
He isn't an idiot like most of the people on the episode.

kosar was basically crying in the 2nd half of that show. it was really sad. and i think he's not doing a good job shaking that alcoholic rep
