They are optimistic for a short recovery...but he's more than likely out this week.

I maintain same status as Blue. Miles also said Blue was just gonna be out a couple of weeks.

He said he (Blue) could be out for the year...he's optimistic right now with Copeland.

I don't have much knowledge on the NCAA rules, but is it possible for Blue to get a medical redshirt?

Unlikely at best but it doesn't cost anything to ask for one. That said, he's probably not going to use all of his eligibility anyway so moot point probably.

Most of your posts are matter-of-fact and seem as thought you have some sort of inside knowledge.

I think it's very likely that Blue gets a redshirt. He will miss more than 70% of the season. That's basically the only criteria, and it fits perfectly.

I'm undecided on how this injury will affect the team yet. On one hand, we lose a battering ram that we used on every running play, and that was very effective. What might happen and *might* be a good thing, is you add a receiver to a high percentage of our plays and see if having a third option (or second option, lol) in the passing game helps. I mean, part of me says if the passing game is an issue, and you know to have balance it has to be better, the FB is the FIRST guy I take out of the game. I like J.C. a lot, but it's more about position than the player, right?

Or Miles could just insert someone else in that spot who will be less effective and still take up a spot, which would be my guess. On some level you have to look at it and say, if we don't have a really, really good replacement for him, spreading the field with an extra WR accomplishes the same as having an extra blocker on the inside, one takes a guy and pushes him outside, and with a FB you take that guy from the inside and push him on his arse, to the outside.

I don't know, if we go without an FB until Copeland is back, do you think it'd be better/worse?

I think it'll be a combination of Neighbors (I think that's our other fb), Ware, and possibly Hillard at fb. Ware seems to be our best blocking back currently and is a battering ram himself. Plus he can catch very effectively so that could add a wrinkle. I actually like the idea of having Ware and Hillard or Ford in the same backfield. The main thing we'd be missing is Copeland animal-like ability to clear space. That would be greatly missed.

Didn't some parent say Neighbors was a better FB than Copeland?

I think it would have to be worse or else Copeland would have been sitting on the bench all season. If there was someone else more effective, he'd be playing instead of J.C.

I have read these rules a few times. I believe Blue would qualify for a medical redshirt because he suffered a season ending injury in the third game (i.e, lost >70% of competition due to injury) and he has not previously redshirted (i.e., played as a true freshman). If a medical redshirt were granted, Blue would have two remaining seasons of elibility. This is not to say that Blue would use his full elibility. After the 2013 season, he could opt for the NFL draft and forego the 2014 season during which he would be a 5th year senior.

Les said he was nicked. Meaning, he could be playing this weekend. Or he could be having his leg amputated below the knee.
