NFL gave Jonathan Vilma a sworn affidavit from former Saints DC Gregg Williams that the New Orleans LB offered $10,000 to any teammate who knocked Brett Favre out of the January 2010 NFC Championship game. More on ESPN and ESPN.com.

Well, I guess this is how Williams will get reinstated after only a one year suspension.

The real question is what is the date on it. Before or after Williams was suspended?

This is new evidence?

Also, doesn't this fall under pay for performance? isn't goodell only supposed to deal with pay to injure?

I don't agree that a sworn affidavit means the truth.. Like someone said there's far more guys giving affidavits in Vilma's favor any ways.

NFL is paying GW off, duh. Why would this NOW be coming out.

Even if it's true(big if), all it is is a verbal proclamation by Vilma. If he never actually put the money in the pool or payed anybody or resulted in a teammate trying to injure anyone in an actual game...it has little to no significance.

This is the best piece of evidence the NFL has. And it's still just the word of 7 men against the word of 1. And the 1 has all the motivation in the world to lie.

This may have been the NFL's fricked up version of a plea deal.

I wouldn't put it past Gregg Williams to sell Vilma out to save his arse.

Hell, I wouldn't put it past almost anyone to sell out to save their own arse.

Aside from any opinion of Williams and his credibility, Williams states in his affidavit that the Saints did not pay for illegal hits or plays that were deemed outside the rules. Does that eliminate "pay to injure?"

Is this really that so hard to believe? I mean it's kinda crazy how many of you are just assuming GW is lying. Y'all remind me of Penn State fans.

Vilma's tweets are MONEY!

NFL has 1 affidavit saying I did.. I have 9 saying I didn't

He's absolutely right. Pretty pathetic that this is now all the NFL is claiming on to..

I like how it took them this long to get this new "evidence". I am sure we will find out Greg Williams lied about this statement at some point.

Benson's silence through all this leads me to believe he's agreed to offer up his organization to the league as a sacrificial lamb for the impending class action lawsuits. However, Goodell has butchered the entire task. At some point, I can't help but think the owners get together and fire Goodell to make him the sacrificial lamb to save face for the NFL. This is getting out of hand and i don't see how Vilma could lose if this gets pushed through Federal Court.
