Should we play shep at tail back so he can get some sweeps and short passes out the backfield? He's not a true reciever and would be best if used as sproles is for the saints.

Who would you let him take carries over?

Blue?
Hilliard?
Ford?
Ware?
Copeland?

Haven't we tried this with Shep already? I think we just need to give up on Shep ever being a star.

Seriously though, we have enough backs. Been there, done that with Shep. He needs to really just be focusing on catching the damn ball for now.

If anything, put him in motion and fake some end arounds while we run the dive. Every now and then, give it to him. Always liked that play, freezes the defense for an extra second.

Shep should get the amount of reps a #4 or #5 receiver gets, nothing more.

he already gets some sweeps, and they've thrown to him out of the backfield before. now they throw him short passes from the slot, not much difference.

Shep just needs to focus on catching the ball. he does that, he'll be fine.

If anything, they should let him line up in shotgun and let him run the ball. By at least showing this 1-2 times a game, it would ensure that Saban wastes practice time on Shep running the ball from the qb position.

On the other hand, running it once or twice a game also ensures we waste practice time on it attempting to perfect it and execute. All of that to force the ball to a player that isn't one of our best runners.

If we did this people would start bitching about short passes, bubble screens or the general lack of throwing the ball down the field...regardless if it got 6-7 yds per play
