I'm female, never hunted before, but want a gun that I can use to hunt without it knocking me down. Also considering purchasing a hand gun for protection. Anyone have suggestions/recommendations?

Rifle for hunting - 7mm-08, Browning X Bolt Micro Hunter
Gun for personal defense - .38SPCL Revolver; Ruger or Smith & Wesson

Or a Remington 870 20 gauge shotgun for both

Price Range would help.
Type of hunting would help.
Prior experience with guns?

.243 for deer
20ga for any and all shotgun needs
.38 revolver for personal protection (would prefer the shotgun for home protection though)

Okay, don't think I'm crazy but here's the answers to your questions:
I hunted some as a kid with my dad. So I have some knowledge about hunting, but haven't held or shot a gun in over 20 years. I'm 5'3", overweight, not girly and you don't want pictures, really. I just look at the way things are going and realize that I may need to know how to hunt in order to eat before too long. And I may need a gun for protection if the country continues down the road it's been on. I have zero knowledge of guns. So I really take what you guys say seriously. So one other question, are guns from a gun show as good (safe, legal) as a gun from a store and would you recommend buying a gun from one place over another?

Didnt read 4 pages but here's my opinion. No difference between women and men. Same advice applies. Biggest problem will be hand size and length of pull. Depending on your size, it may matter and may not. Can't tell how many times a guy buys his girl a "women's" gun and she ends up shooting his because it's a better all around gun.
