Red Star closing down

Sad news. Any bar that doesn't have a TV set and has T-Rex and Guns N' Roses in the jukebox is a good one in my book.
Red Star, the scarlet-hued Laurel Street bar that opened shortly after downtown began its current resurgence, will cease operation under the stewardship of Frank McMains on Sept. 19.
McMains, who is also a freelance photographer and journalist, told followers of the bar’s Facebook page that his life is now taking him in another direction and that an unnamed party has made an offer on the building.
McMains, who could be reached immediately for comment, left the door open for the space to function as a bar in some form, but said it is too early to say at this point.
“I would like nothing more than for Red Star to continue as one of the foundation stones in Baton Rouge’s revitalized downtown with much of its current character intact, but the eventual outcome is largely out of my hands and the timeline for such a possibility is unknown,” McMains wrote.

Hopefully and equally hipster place opens up in it's wake. Whether there or somewhere else.

What I posted in another thread on it:
I was bummed to hear about that. Had many, many good times in that bar. It was the only bar downtown I enjoyed.
And if you think it was only a hipster bar, you are sadly mistaken.

I liked downtown much better before the revitalization.
Red star, thirsty tiger, m's, richouxs, tabbys (5$ mystery brew) and even that nasty gay bar macs.

I'm a big fan of the Radio Bar too. But Red Star is within staggering distance for me.

I do miss some Thirsty Tiger.
Sucks about Red Star, it's been a while since I've been in but it was always a good time.

Why do people care about the patrons of a bar? I don't like places where all people are the same. I'll never get that mentality.

Honestly, I'm no hipster, as I'm too old for all that I suppose, but I liked the bar, and I'm dissapointed. Not good news at all. I found it to be a pretty cool kind of tucked away place to grab a beer.

Because if it isn't decked in purple and gold and has TV sets a very significant segment of the population doesn't feel comfortable here. That's a fact.

Unfortunate, saw some good bands in there and they had a great jukebox
