I think the phrase is awesome, but am not sure of it's origination. How did this saying come about?

By it never raining in Tiger Stadium, ever.
True it sometimes rains OUTSIDE the stadium and wind blows some water in, but it never actually rains in the stadium.

"Dan Borné: Growing up in Thibodaux, we always heard, “It never rains in Tiger Stadium on a Saturday Night.” It was just this phrase we always heard. I don’t even know where it came from. Well, I would always do the weather forecasts before the game, and I would just say what the actual report said. But one night, I just said, “Chance of rain – never.” It just came out. I had never heard the words put together that way. I’d heard, “It never rains in Tiger Stadium,” and no one can find out where it came from, but it just kind of caught on. Now, it’s expected, and people answer back to me. I say “Chance of rain,” and they say, “never.”

I am a little sketchy on this but I think the origin of the saying - not what the stadium announcer does but the saying itself - goes back many years to when a string of poor weather forecasts turned out to be incorrect. I defer to older Tiger fans on this one, but I seem to recall hearing that.

There was a long stretch of games where it never actually rained during a game, or at most, a light rain for a few moments, over a period of 20 years. Then it became a slogan, and now it is tradition.
I can confirm this is true - I have never been in Tiger Stadium when it was raining, although there has been extreme condensation at times.

yes the condensation in the air vs Oregon State 04 was almost classified as rain, but not quite

I was at the Miami game in the 90's....I am not going to say it rained but it was the worst humidity Ive ever experienced.

Was anybody at the South Carolina game in 1995 or 1996 (Can't remember which year, but you'll remember the game)
it was coming down so hard you could hardly see the field.
We also played Florida State around 1990 (again, might be wrong on the year) and that was another gullywasher.
But actual rain??? I really can't recall any.

I think it was a Mississippi State game that the "condensation" was so bad, I thought I was going to drown.
But not actual "rain"... (just like the Blind Melon song).

I don't remember any specifically more than Miami b/c they killed us that game.
I do remember quite a few times it being so humid we took cover under the stands

I was there that was a weak tropical storm or depression that was coming through and yeah we had about 3 or 4 inches of condensation accumulate during the game.
