Get whichever one you like better. They are both great rifles and you will definitely be happy with either one. Just make sure it has a short enough stock for them to handle properly.

Either one you get will be superb. I have a Savage and Rem. DO NOT get the Savage Edge or Axis whatever they're calling it now.

I am in the same boat as you.My son is 8 this year and wants to hunt bad with me.My dad left me his Model 700 .270.It had the wood stock and has a scope already on it.I bought a Model 700 youth synthetic stock on Ebay for $35 and some Hornady Custom Lite ammo.I would like to put a Limsaver pad on it as well.take a look on Ebay for a youth stock if you go the 700 route.
