Only thing I can offer is ive heard horrible things about the Rossi
ETA: What age child is this for? Boy or girl? height weight? I have a step son I want to get a gun for but he's kinda puney.

Got my son the rossi combo (243,22, and 20 ga). It is an absolute piece of junk. I bought him the combo which came with a a 22 and 20ga. The open sights on the 22 won't even adjust enough to center a shot. I tried calling and email and after about 6 months still haven't heard anything from them. I would steer clear of them if I were you. Also they kick like a mule.

Savage 7mm-08 is a great choice. You didn't even need our help ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconcheers.gif)

Got a Rossi rifle/shotgun (interchangeable barrels) for my son 12 years ago.
Rifle was a POS. Terrible group, lousy sights.
With the .410 shotgun barrel, it was quite nice. Liked the revolver-style transfer bar safety. We still use it as a shotgun.

I have a HR handi rifle in .243. Figured the kids could use it then get a primitive barrel for it later. Shoots good.

If I had to pick from those three it would probably be the Savage. I would have picked the Remington hands down had you replaced that second 7 with a 0. A Remington 700 is .243 can be a very accurate rifle if you do the right things.

Get a weatherby or remington
don't buy it in .243, get him a 7mm-08.
my 8 year old shoots a Marlin XS7Y in 7mm-08

Bump rather than start new thread. Anyone had experience with Howas? I have read some decent reviews considering the price. Looking at a 7mm-08 for Mrs Cove and/or the kids.
