Now,2 days before a hurricane hits then it's "Err merr gerrddd,I don'ts has enough moneys to be buyin no generator" I really don't sympathize with people like this.
You're pretty put of touch with a lot of people. I know you helped a lot of people with their generators, but a good portion of us can't fit a decent generator in to our budgets.
Eta: after looking at your post And subsequent post again, I might have misinterpreted your post. The fact still stands that a lot of people don't have the means to afford a generator.

The point he was trying to make is if you can't afford a generator or Hotel room and you know a hurricane is approaching and there is a very very good possibility that you're going to be out of power for a few days then either you prepare and make arrangements to make yourself comfortable or just deal with it. But you can't bitch and complain and blame the power company, the city or your neighbors that have generators for your lack of preparation when you knew what to expect.

You can absolutely blame a company for poor service (or in this case poor/excellent reaction to a service being down). That being said, I am not saying entergy isn't prepared or doing a bad job. I have no idea, so I chose not to comment about their preparedness.
For me personally, I've accpeted the fact that when a storm comes, I will most likely be without power. However, like I mentioned before in this thread, being mentally prepared for no power without a generator, doesn't mean I have to act happy that I'm losing 5 pounds of body weight in water every hour (hint of sarcasm).

Bro, they've only been on the Job trying to restore power in Nola less than 36 hours. Would you fricking relax?? Only about 24 hours in Baton Rouge.

You understand that they are dealing with raw power, and they have to be extremely careful not only to not kill themselves but to not frick it up even more?
I've been working as an EE for 10 years, and I'm not sure what raw power is.

I am relaxed. I was simply replying to one of the posters. If you look at my last few posts, they've actually been quite light hearted. Am I upset I don't have power, sure. But I haven't been bashing on Entergy or saying they weren't doing their best. I'm sure their workers are doing the best job they can.

I don't have Entergy. I have SLECA here in Houma. Great service. I also have power, but I was out for almost 48 hours. Probably would have been sooner but the winds slowed the progress.
My big decision is whether or not to buy a natural gas generator. I'm thinking of making the plunge.

I was talking about this today, and will be getting one for sure, but will also be buying a gas one to back up it up for our fridge, box fans and tv.

Well they had mine back on in less than 72 hours. 66 hours to be exact. So I'm not complaining one bit.

Is that enough to power the entire house? I don't know anything about this.

You don't remember the 4 types of power: real, reactive, apparent, and raw?

Just read something that said you need a 48kw generator to run the entire house.

Yes.
Parents have a 25kw for a 3700 sqft on 3 central air units. Runs the whole house comfortably. They have several gas components though, gas hot water heaters, gas stove, etc.
Neighbors have a 16kw that runs their house fine.

That's a huge surprise, they're trying to sell you more than you really need.

Does that mean you need more or less kilowatts?
