Regardless of thoughts on the whole doping issue, you can't argue against his contribution to humanity. The numbers don't lie. Hundreds of millions of dollars have been raised towards cancer research and cancer survivor aid.
In this case they might. Very little of that $500 million has went towards research. A lot of people think Lance himself got rich off of this foundation. Almost all of the money has went towards "Awareness".

I don't know whether he doped or not, but I do know that he is the most scrutinized and tested athlete in history and that, to my knowledge he has never failed any test. The only evidence they have is the testimony of some guys who did fail and we know they are cheaters.
The whole thing just seems like a witch hunt.
The tests that were done does not detect blood transfusion doping which Lance was doing along with many other cyclists.

so fricking what.
this has always been their mission and doesn't diminish the work this foundation is doing.

the article you posted states that he doesn't even take reimbursements for his own expenses

again, so what.
let's go crack open some old lemond blood or fignon or merckx.
just because there are new tests to blood that is still sitting around in labs doesn't have anything to do with what was tested for back then.
if this is the case, lets just keep everyone's freaking blood forever and continue to test it until we've effectively discovered the entire peloton was doping in one form or other.
awesome.

seems, according to that article, that most of their profits go towards improving the lives of cancer patients. They made a decision to switch away from research because they believed their money could be better spent. That article is a one sided hack job that tries to spin every decision Livestrong made in a negative light
quote:
They stayed lower despite a notable success in 2007, perhaps Livestrong’s greatest achievement. Armstrong spent much of that year campaigning for Proposition 15, a Texas ballot initiative to create a huge pool of public money for cancer research and prevention. He worked the Texas legislature and traveled the state by bus with then state representative Patrick Rose, and the measure passed. “There is no chance that Prop 15 would have become a reality but for Lance’s personal involvement,” Rose says today.
part of the cancer awareness you complain about

Not true. They tested for a red blood cell count, and if the count was too high, you failed the test EVEN IF YOU HADN'T USED EPO. It was actually possible to fail the test without doing the drugs, and the Anti-Doping Commission essentially said, "Well, tough shite."
Besides, US athletes occassionally admit to blood doping because it's not against the rules in most US sports.

All I know is that Tygart guy said this exact thing about not being able to test for transfusions on SVP's show about an hour ago. I have no dog in this fight, but I thought the guy came across as a self righteous dickhead.

this really is a sad day... the man did something no one else has ever done but yet some do anything they can to destroy him.

Cycling is really hard if you ain't on the dope of some kind. go try to ride 20 miles into a headwind without some giddy up in your bag.

I would just like to say I don't give a frick about cycling or what PEDs they used.
I'd imagine most of the participants were using PEDs.

i do amateur racing and can vouch for this. there are 5 levels; 5-1 (5 beginner, 1 is semi-pro) and the difference in ability is very clear.
its all about training; getting used to doing long rides with short intense intervals but its not that difficult to move up to a cat-3 level with consistent riding and training if you have the desire and time to devote to it.
having said all that; once you get into the 2s and 1s everyone is strong; everyone is at the max of their abilities and everyone tapers off to a large degree so the skills are fairly equal.
this is why maybe 5-6 minutes is all that separates the top 10 finishers of the TDF year after year.
amateur racers generate somewhere between 275-325 watts (based on a 1-hour max power test) and the pros..if you look at the power numbers published from the tour on some of the tough stages..are only somewhere around 400 watts.
thats alot, but its not as huge of a gulf as people make it seem. however that 50 - 75 watts makes a HUMUNGOUS difference when you're talking they have the ability to do that for 6 hours a day over 3 weeks.
big sprinters like cavendish can crank out close to 2000 watts in a sprint; but that type of power is only happening for maybe 15 seconds.
TMI
tl;dr
anyway, at the very top international pro level, doping is the only way you can get an advantage.
that's all i'm saying.

CAD do you ever crank it up to 400 watts when you see another cyclist that gives you "the look"

Lance Did This to himself!
The whole body of evidence shows he cheated, he is not the first and not the last to do so, but for Lance he thinks he is above it all. Lance and his team of lawyers have attacked everyone and every bit of evidence. Lance did fail test over the years and he had the results covered up or declaired invalid. He and Barry Bonds have alot in common.

And I believe that I've pretty much gone on record on this site about my lack of concern regarding PEDs.
Well, you are an intellectually weak douche then. He may be an a-hole, but this does not make it fair or right. You seem like a liberal.

As a cycling fan I want the sport as clean as it can be, and if this helps, so be it.
Also a dickhead attitude. It doesn't matter if we don't have anything other than circumstantial, but if we need to hang the guy in effigy so I can feel better about myself and the sport, then I'm on board.
