Movies you love that everyone else seems to despise

I have noticed that there are quite a few movies that I like a lot and have seen multiple times that others hate with a passion. Here are a few examples:
- Star Wars prequels
- Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
- Matrix Reloaded & Revolutions
- Avatar
- Superman Returns
- All 3 Transformer movies, especially the second one
Basically any movie with huge stakes (generally the world), some type of savior, awesome CGI, and a passable plot (not looking for a Shakespearean play here).
Is it just cool to hate these movies? They are simply fun experiences and obviously do really well at the box office. I watch movies to see awesome things happen and to truly escape, not to be reminded of real life.

You're trolling right?

I am dead serious. This is exactly the reaction I am talking about. Those movies did very well at the box office, so I am obviously not the only one that enjoyed those movies. I'll take any of those over something as boring as The Hurt Locker or Tree of Life any day.

I'll start with the Transformers films if you'd like and work my way up to carefully explain why they are terrible.

Please do. I gave you my criteria for a movie I really enjoy. I don't care about plot. I just want a fun experience.

You're telling the wrong board this stuff. That's like going to the food board and proclaiming that McDonald's is good food.
I personally enjoy those movies as well, although I wouldn't say they're great.

I really like the Transformer movies, but people seem to bang on them pretty hard.
I enjoyed Avatar, but I think I could only watch that movie every 2 years or so its so long and in depth

Are you implying this board is comprised of movie snobs? Perish the thought!

Avatar was a cool visual experience. I have no real need to see it on tv though. Transformers 3 was alright.

I am actually with you on this. I saw it 4 times in the theater because it was such a great experience, but I have seen it one time since it came out.

quote:Yes and no. Yes there re plenty of movie snobs on this board. No, you don't have to be a movie snob to think that movies like Transformers 2, Avatar and Indy 4 are full of suck.

I loved Avatar at the theater and was claiming it deserved Best Picture over Hurt Locker. But that love never translated to the small screen for me. Transformers 2 was another one I defended vehemently, but I'm sorry, that movie is just awful and no amount of giant fighting robots can change it.
the Crystal Skull? Really?
I want you to enjoy your Movie Board experience and learn from it. There is nothing wrong with liking movies most people say suck. I like Attack of the Clones and Matrix Reloaded a lot. But I'm not going to argue with someone over their greatness. Eventually you can just appreciate some movies for what they are like ID4 and Armageddon.

Pretty much this. Transformers is mass produced shite to try to appeal to as many demographics as possible, and thus creates a very forgetable experience. Seriously, what do remember from this film? Optimus Prime socking Megatron in the fricking face? The only good bit of action I remember was when those guys dived from the plane with the kite suits. I don't really hate Transformers, I just look at it as a film that doesn't give two shits about the plot and makes it completely forgettable.
