LINK

guess the Southland was desperate enough to look past the APR issues, attendance issues, and state budget cuts

i'd just as soon have all the UL system schools drop athletics, but it seems to be a political no-go...

the next round of budget cuts maybe

From what I understand, they plan to.

This is all hearsay, but I heard that they needed $30,000 this fall to have their club team play. They only raised $7,000 so they won't even have a club team this year.

If true, then this is quite possibly the worst idea ever.

Didn't they cancel their baseball program?

UNO vs. Southeastern
UNO vs. Nicholls
UNO vs. McNeese

I could get behind these

If they aren't playing this year, it will be quite a shock to LSU...UNO appears on LSU's baseball and women's basketball schedules.

It'd be quite a shock to the players and coaches as well.
In other words no need to miss them, they still have baseball and basketball teams.

As SE LA alum I resent that! I went to LSU, too, but no way.

Yea you're right. We should just cancel our program and let the almighty LSU be the only football school in Louisiana. I have seen the light

I really would like to see UNO do well. It is just sad that they have virtually ZERO fanbase to speak of. The new AD Derek Morel will hopefully be a shot in the arm to the program.

I have been to countless excellent concerts in UNO Arena. Lots of good memories.

Good deal, at any rate there's too much tradition at UNO to see it truly go under would be a real shame.

This past year I worked as an assistant in the UNO Athletic Department and I got very close with many people there. Over my time, working pretty much every sporting event, I overheard many conversations about UNO moving to D1 as soon as this year. They honestly have no fanbase and if you have ever been to a UNO basketball game at Lakefront you know what I mean. They are in the process of getting approval for their football team to join the NCAA and are also looking to add track and field. They hope that they can get a grant to build some new on-campus athletic facilities to attract some fans. It doesn't suprise me that this happened so soon but I guarentee that politics forced the Southland to send them an ivnite.
