What Was The First Game That Got You Addicted To Online Gaming

It can be either console or PC.
For me it was on the original Xbox. Ghost Recon Island Thunder. The graphics were shite, but the fact that I could play against people all over the world was absolutely incredible. The second game I ever played online was NFL Fever (Peyton Manning on the cover). Another shite game, but it was competitive stuff. Ever since that day, I haven't been able to put much effort into single player modes in games. I don't know how I was even able to put so many hours into games before online play came about.

Halo 2 without a doubt.
If you count Halo 1 system link as online play then that would be my answer but I wouldn't think that counts as online.

Is where my tournament play started. Before Halo 2, playing online was just fun. When Halo 2 came out, I was older and had just heard of MLG. I knew I wanted to be a part of it. Never got to MLG level, but won a few tournaments for Aviano Air Base during the USAFE (United States Air Force Europe) tournaments.
We would play other teams from Rammstein, Lajes Field, RAF Fairford, Lakenheath, Mildenhall.
At one point I was recruited by MLG, but was never able to actively participate in any tournaments because I was living in Italy at the time.
But I am older and no where near as good as I once was so I am trying to lose the anger part of gaming and just enjoy it while I can

I loved the "cook nade" trick of just throwing it on the ground and picking back up and timing the throw. If you were on rocky terrain, you ran the risk of the nade running away from you. At that point, you just hoped you didn't kill any of your teammates

I don't know how many times I did that on avalanche. Trying to prime the nade to throw it down to the lowside corner just enough to bank it off the building.

I also change my answer. Now that I think about it, online Warcraft 3 was probably the first I played pretty religiously.

I tried Warcraft 3 for a while, but got my arse kicked so hard.
I never could get good at online RTSs.
I may also have to change my answer again depending on when these games came out, but I played AOE: Age of Kings and Command and Conquer 2 religiously (Even though I wasn't great at them).
