I see FPS by the dozen now yet they all do the same thing. However I also seen story driven FPS like HALO get their story discarded and people just load straight up to multi-player.

Which one is more important to the FPS genre?

I don't play online. I want a FPS with a damn good story behind it.

Don't know if they make that anymore or not.

This. There is a reason I can play Skyrim for days and weeks (not that Skyrim is an FPS, but that's beside the point) and get bored with an FPS after beating the story once and playing online for a day or so.

Multi.

Only play the story when no one is on. I've gone more than a month without touching a campaign.

I never even started the first mission of the campaign in MW3, haha.

You need friends. There isn't a story ever made that is more fun than competitive gaming with a bunch of your homies.

I played it for the first time in awhile the other day. The new maps are cool but they are the same style with different clutter. Decommission would make you rage soooo hard.
I did enjoy it some though. Made me exited for BLOPS II

I always try to play the campaign first and then play MP. I buy games for the campaign (if I know it will be good and have played the other ones....i.e. Halo, Gears, COD, etc) even though a lot of the games now release them for the multi.

I played the campaign to mw3 (it was my first CoD, so I had to get used to it), but I enjoy the multiplayer far more

See that's where I disagree (oh and nice jab about not having friends, even though it's not true, they just don't play FPS's). Plus I do plenty of things that are competitive (including sports games online), gaming just isn't usually one of them, just doesn't do it for me.

I don't play story mode on a lot of games. Sometimes I will but it's multiplayer for me

MP for replay value. Some FPS games, like Halo, do have very good stories though. That is a rare quality in FPS now-a-days though.

The only reason i finished the mw3 campaign was to just finish that whole story with Soap and Price.

Ever FPS I've ever played, I played the story mode before multiplayer, with exception to BF2. The storylines are all the same with slight modifications now; It's really not even fun anymore. I, for one, would gladly welcome another FPS with a great storyline, like Halo. But the replay value is almost completely the multiplayer. That is the bread and butter of today's FPS, so naturally that is the biggest focus of game companies now.
